About this villa rental
Relax and recharge at Casa Marmelo, a luxurious four bedroom five bathroom villa with private heated pool overlooking the stunning Douro River in Northern Portugal.
Sleep in one of the four beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with super-king bed and en-suite bathroom, relax in the spacious lounge with wood-burning fireplace or swim in the heated pool with 360 degree views over the Douro River. Wake up in the morning to a complementary breakfast served by Helena, our wonderful housekeeper, in either our modern, full-equipped kitchen/diner or outside on the beautiful terrace with views down to Porto Antigo.
Set in the lush, green land of the Douro region, Casa Marmelo is just over an hour's drive from Porto. There is a train station (Mosteiro) about a 20 minute walk from the house, which will take you on a stunning train ride along the Douro River, including to Peso de Regua and Pinhao - perfect for when you fancy some wine or port tasting.
There are plenty of walking routes a stones throw away that take you off the beaten track into the wooded hills above the house, with hidden ruins, waterfalls and the medieval route, the Rota Romanica, to explore. Water-sports are available on the Douro river.
Casa Marmelo's private grounds are divided into terraces typical of the Douro region, with areas for children to play and adults to relax and take in the spectacular views of the river and surrounding countryside. The 14 metre pool sits in a generous granite decking area with tables, seating and sun loungers.
The pool is heated from 1 April - 1 October. From 2 October to 31 March, we will heat the pool for a fee of €350 if the weather permits (lower temperatures mean the pool will be unusable even with the heat pump on). The villa has parking for 5-6 cars on-site.

Everything was better than expected. Food, hospitality, responsiveness, material sent in advance to assist in planning was amazing. Helena was extremely helpful. I highly recommend Casa Marmelo.

During our non-stop travels around Portugal Fall of ‘24 we craved a spot to fully unpack and relax for a few days and this listing definitely fit the bill. Amazing house! The Owner/Mgr couldn’t have been more helpful, with great communications. And Helena was so kind and generous with her time and energy. Located on the historic train line Along the Douro, it’s an easy, scenic 1-hr train ride to wineries in Pinhão and beyond. And the view is worth the trip. Highly Recommend!

This property is stunning. It is everything you see in the pictures and more. Every aspect of the villa is high quality. The view, the living space, the awesome breakfasts prepared by Helena and the information provided by Kate were all exceptional. We were a party of 6, but there is lots of room for 4 couples to spend time together or find a quiet place to read. We loved everything about this property and I know it would have been even better if the weather cooperated.
The only thing to be aware of is driving in the valley and the access road to the villa requires your full attention. When you are planning your excursions, keep in mind covering territory takes time and you will owe a big thank you to your driver who will have to stay away from the great local wines until the car is safely back in the driveway.

We had an amazing holiday at Casa Marmelo! Everything we needed was in the villa and Helena’s breakfasts were fantastic.
Great base to explore the Douro Valley.
