About this house rental
Old Hollywood meets Old West Austin at the timeless Governor's Mansion – a mile from Downtown Austin. The stately residence was built by Texas' first woman Governess, Miriam “Ma” Ferguson in 1927. Legend has it, her hostful spirit can still be felt welcoming excited visitors into her house on the hill top. Accommodations include 7 bedrooms + 5 bathrooms to sleep a total of 18 guests. Amenities include a fully stocked kitchen with high-end appliances, 4 separate living quarters with their own spacious drawing rooms, a private unheated sunkissed swimming pool, multiple shaded poolside seating areas, a propane gas grill and a secluded second floor balcony among the treetops. The estate has been fully restored with tasteful design elements paired with rich textiles and furnishings – ideal for entertaining family, friends or colleagues. Tape, tacks, and other adhesives tend to peel paint and leave marks, etc. Glitter and confetti decor are also prohibited both inside and outside. Evidence will result in an additional cleaning fee of $250, plus the cost of damages to home.
-Enjoy a smoke, just not inside. Please ensure all doors and windows are shut and dispose of your ends in the outdoor trash bins. Indoor smoking will result in a sizable fine.
-Reservations made during Festivals and Conferences are non-refundable, i.e., SXSW, ACL, F-1, etc.

Good sleeping options for large groups

We had a large family group (11) that stayed on the weekend of April 10. There was plenty of space and bathrooms for everyone. The online pictures are accurate. The pool and patio looked lovely, but way too cold and rainy to actually use the pool. The lower level bathrooms are re-modeled and much nicer then the older bathrooms upstairs. The only downside, was the wi-fi and internet access was too slow.

You can’t go to Austin and not book this property! The house itself is extremely charming, very clean and extremely spacious. We stayed with 12 girls for a bachelorette and everyone with the exception of two girls had their own bed (mattresses very comfortable so another plus!). The house is split up into almost 3 separate sleeping areas which was perfect for groups of girls who wanted to go bed early vs girls who didn’t. The house was very well equipped, fully stocked kitchen, lots of towels, including pool towels, paper products, etc. The pool area is massive but also very private! New day beds were delivered while we were there, so comfy! The location is incredible - less than 10 min drive to downtown Austin. There’s a huge park walking distance down the street with a coffee truck that made for a perfect start to our mornings . The owner and his family made our trip though - he came over to say hi after we checked in and not only offered to give any recommendations, but offered to book reservations/activities for us. He was constantly checking in if we needed anything at all and ended up catering two breakfasts for us. I would say it was like a concierge service that came with the house, something that made our trip even more successful. We will remember our stay forever and hope to be back one day!

The house was great but so many of the appliances and bathroom facilities were broken. We went in the beginning of September and the ac wasn’t working to standard. The rooms got up to 80 degrees at night making it miserable to sleep in. 3 toilets were broken, a shower was broken, a sink’s cold water didn’t work at all. The wifi was horrible and did not work even if you were next to the router. The house manager said they would compensate me in some way for the issues but I haven’t heard anything.
