Forget “cosy cottage” – this is a bland new-build with all the warmth of a show home
Yes, the place was technically habitable and not unsanitary
The property is a triumph of style over substance – or rather, of photographs over reality. The listing carefully avoids showing the absence of a proper dining table, replacing it with a fold-out contraption that is neither practical nor inviting, accompanied by stools instead of chairs. The décor appears to have been chosen for Instagram rather than for human comfort. What looks like a neat parquet floor in the photos is, in truth, a cheap laminate that makes an incessant ticking noise with every step. Storage is laughable: no wardrobe, merely a hanging rail with a dangling net. As for the “decorative touches,” think clutter and an army of plastic plants – vaguely convincing in staged pictures, but downright depressing in real life. Cracks in the walls are not just cosmetic; they run through to the exterior, a reminder of how little care has gone into maintenance. The garden, if one is generous enough to call it that, is fenced in without a gate and accessorised with a filthy ashtray overflowing with cigarette ends. Inside, the sofa was liberally sprinkled with dog hairs (not our dog’s), suggesting that cleaning is perfunctory at best. Yes, the place was technically habitable and not unsanitary, but it felt utterly devoid of charm. Forget “cosy cottage” – this is a bland new-build with all the warmth of a show home past its sell-by date. The host seems to have invested exclusively in appearances, with no grasp of atmosphere, comfort, or authenticity. A rather disappointing stay, and certainly not what was promised in the photos.
