Casa " MARY "

Mary is fantastic. She can arrange all kinds of tours for you. The hostel has all the right facilities. The bathroom is clean, with a great shower.

It is a hostel, not a fancy hotel. Just so you know.

Casa Mary is very well situated in Lanquin. The host is excellent and she will go out of her way to make sure you have the best stay possible whilst in Lanquin. You can book all your transfers and tours through the property which took the stress away for us, and they will even pick you up and drop you off at the bus station in a tuktuk, for no extra cost. The rooms have two fans and are spacious and comfortable, the bathrooms are clean and there is a shop at the property so you can purchase drinks, snacks and icecreams.

Super friendly host! We really appreciated being picked up from the bus station. The hosts were incredibly accommodating, snacks available from the shop, water, and helped make coffee. We felt very welcome throughout our stay and would 100% recommend staying here!

Location was good

The worst place I've been to in Guatemala, and by far not the cheapest. The main problem is that it is highly overpriced: all the negative points would have been acceptable if the price matched (I had the "deluxe" room with private bathroom). Most things feel cheap: the bed base still wrapped in plastic, the two useless fans (the one that works cannot point at the bed and the one which can is so weak that it is useless) or the strong artificial liquid soap used to refill an old plastic bottle. Because she didn't want to wait that previous payments (which were processed) arrive to her bank account, I had to move heaven and earth to pay her in cash. I explained to her that I did not have enough cash to pay the hotel, told her that my card does not work in the only ATM of the town and that no shop accepted it. Knowing all the complications I went through, it would have been nice to have at least a thank you, because technically I did all of this to solve her problem (which was a waiting situation more than a problem really). There is a water fountain to get water, but you can only get it while there is someone at the reception (otherwise it is closed) and the water is warm. Every single place I've been to (including cheaper places) offered, if not a refrigerator with water bottles inside, at least a water fountain in the room. If you want air during the night, you have to open the heavy curtains, but it implies that everyone passing by will see you in bed. Similarly, the bathroom is right next to reception with the ceiling not properly sealed, which means that privacy is not a strong point here. And one last strong negative aspect: cockroaches. Once again, every point of that review would have been acceptable if the price matched: unfortunately, the "deluxe" price did not correspond to a "deluxe" stay.
