Garden House is a solid and rambling house with unexpectedly large bedrooms, all en suite. You'll probably spend a fair bit of time in the large communal area off the kitchen, perfect for chats, board games, and of course meals.
It has a delightful mature garden, with a sunny lawn enclosed by trees and shrubs, and the river and mill race on both sides. It is less than 100 metres from a main road but it feels isolated, serene, bucolic, with just a bit of birdsong to be heard. It was pretty much perfect.
We were a party of 9, 3 couples and 3 singletons, from various parts of England and Wales. We are old friends who do this sort of meet-up on an irregular basis, having been to a Welsh chapel conversion and apartments in Barcelona in the last few years. Garden House was without doubt the most comfortable and home-like (and affordable!) of these and our other trips.
The owner, Matt, was genial and most helpful, providing us with a great list of local eateries and ideas for hikes before we arrived. Thanks Matt, you're a great host! We loved your house, and all hope to stay again.
The fact that the Egypt Mill hotel/ restaurant is mere yards across the adjoining lawns was a most pleasant bonus. Do eat there at least once, the menu is excellent, and please tell Stacey, who may be your waitress, that we miss her.
Nothing I can think of. Oh, my en suite bathroom only had soap, 2 new bars, no shower gel. Not a grumble at all, didn't bother me in the slightest, just an observation. And a sign I spend a lot of time in hotels with the little bottles of gel and conditioner etc everywhere!

The location, the space inside the house, each bedroom had an ensuite, the closeness to the town, the covered walkway to the restaurant. The exceptional helpful host, who went above and beyond - 5 Stars.
The host even sorted out one of our parties car to enable their journey home.
Fairly tricky access.

The house was quirky and suited our family. It was in a good location. Matt very responsive when communicating with him.

Generally very tired and in need of a refurb.
Living space small for size of property and insufficient seating in lounge - property sleeps 12 but sofa could only seat 5 people.
TV partially obscured when lounge door was open.
Two downstairs bedrooms were cold and radiators didn’t work.
External window frames rotten and windows desperately in need of cleaning. Ivy growing over windows.
Tatty ‘Merry Christmas’ doormat and ashtray at front door gave a bad first impression.
All our group felt the property was much more like a hostel and furniture was very old and tired.
