We booked and paid in full, knowing the property was a walk from the car park—but at no point were we told that suitcases were not allowed or manageable. After traveling internationally with standard luggage, we were told to leave our bags in the car and just bring a small backpack. Leaving visible luggage in a car in Italy? Completely unsafe. I asked if they could help us carry the bags, even just one person to assist, but was told, "we don’t offer that service." No support, no flexibility, no empathy. On the day of arrival, the only message we received was asking if we were coming for dinner—nothing about whether we’d managed to reach the property. In the end, we couldn’t safely get to the accommodation and had to forfeit our full payment and book elsewhere. A costly and stressful waste of time.

It was close to the beach
To Get, To The Property You Have To Go Up in a hiking trail Wish Not Good If You Have Luggage and no air conditioning

A sensationally beautiful location and building, l‘Eremo Rifugio is run by a dedicated, super friendly team of people, providing a unique overnight experience in the beautiful forests near Portofino.
After a swim , we had dinner outside under the stars, saw a family of wild boars and fireflies all around us - magical!
The team led by Luca could not have been friendlier, the food and wine was delicious, the house us beautiful and the walks to the gorgeous bay at Paraggio for a swim and into Portofino are really stunning! Would go back in a heartbeat!
It’s too far away to go every weekend! 😂

Everything about this stay was exceptional, local, unique, historic, sustainable etc. etc. I could not have loved our time here more. 100% coming back and coming for a longer stay!
Nothing I didn't like! The steep walk is what makes it so charming and unique! I hope it never changes!!!

Beautiful location, incredibly friendly staff, peaceful in nature and nobody else around but just 15/20 minutes walk to Portofino . Some amazing walks and runs in hills .
Was fine for me (and plenty of clear notice given ) but a good 10-15 steep climb to property . I had a rucksack so easy - with suitcases would be a challenge . No AC and no or little blinds/curtains - but if you are happy to be up early and enjoy fantastic nature , it’s wonderful

The property was in such a wonderful location. The staff were all incredibly helpful and access to the local towns and beaches were so easy and accessible. The food was amazing and it just felt like a home away from home.

Location - in the natural park.
Breakfast - fruits and bread. Leakage in the shower. The only public beach nearby is super small, mega crowded and dirty. Private beaches - 40-200 Euro per day. Next public beach - 2,5 km away. The area is very expensive and full of rich tourists in general. My mistake - should have read more about it before coming for vacation :( Never again.

The property was a calm retreat away from the road, with beautiful views out to sea. Our room was large and clean with a modern feel. The homemade breakfasts are tasty and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend to anybody wanting to stay near Portofino.

Awesome place…gorgeous views, beautifully done in such a simple way! For anyone wanting to escape a great find. The walk in is not too bad at all and the walk to Portofino fabulous. Great bus service from Santa Margherita (no car needed) Lovely little bay at the bottom of the track at Paraggi!! Al in all a great stay!!

This is exactly what i hoped for. The Refugio is simple to access by walk and just 10 min far from the Road and the bus station nearby. I was charmed by the Place, the calm, the nature and the possibility to escape the crowd to enjoy beautiful view and the compagny of the very kind hosts. Thank you for the time and food spent together. I recommand this Place and i will for sure be back if i pass by Portofino or the cinqueterre.

The bed was fairly comfortable and the linens seemed clean. The breakfast was okay. Not much good else to say.
We chose this place because properties in the area were expensive and this looked like an okay option for two able-bodied people who like hiking and could pack light for the "10-minute hike" to the location. We were not provided a map of where to start the hike. We tried to call and text the place for confirmation but there was no answer and no return text. We were lucky to find the right walking path and then saw a sign for the place. Once there, the hiking trail was very ill-made and, most especially, not lit in the dark for a safe return trip up the hill after dinner in town. Once we arrived, there was no greeting to us, we were ignored until we asked someone how to check in (there is no desk or reception area). The rooms have no lock. No window coverings. We were asked to leave our shoes in the hallway, but had to retrieve them because the floors were filthy and our socks were immediately covered in dirt. The bathroom had no hand soap at all. There is no hot water once the sun goes down or until a few hours after it comes up in the morning. Our room could have accommodated more people, in theory, with a loft room - but you had to ascend a very dangerous ladder to get to it. No wifi (except in one room) nor cell service. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Just don't come here. This place feels like a hippie commune they use to pay the bills so they can live as they like. It really does have a lot of potential to be a cool place to stay, but someone needs to care about the guests and their experience.

It is a beautiful building on the outskirts of the city in the forest, but also only a little hike down to the beach, which was beautiful
i liked everything - but you must keep in mind it is in the forest on a hiking trail and so it may not be the easiest to get to if you have anything more than a backpack 🎒. (and definitely not in heels after a night out in Santa Margarita!) just travel light!

Unique, peaceful and friendly place to stay. The staff and guest were exceptionally friendly and we loved the delicious, home cooked ‘family style dinners’. Hearing wild boar foraging outside at night was a highlight!
As advised in the description, anyone staying should be aware there’s a 10 min hike up to the accommodation - totally doable if you are reasonably fit but worth considering the luggage you bring!

romantic location in the wood, authentic renovated old mill, view down to the sea, nice couple that runs the place, spontaneous dinner possible with homemade food
breakfast very limited with bread, cake, honey and jam
car parking 15 min away and very expensive.. but yeah, the location is really in the wood on the hill ;-)

Great location only a short 10 mins walk away from the closest bus stop that brings you to Portofino.
Close to the greatest beach of the area.
Really positive experience.
Everything was really good.
Maybe the breakfast could be improved a bit.

Magical surrounding with nature all around (we saw a family of wild boar at night), friendly and helpful staff, great food, spotless rooms and impecable bathrooms.
Hike up to the house on a hot day was sweaty for me. Don't bring your big suitcase up the hill unless you want a workout.

Nice friendly hosts, hotel in the middle of the natural park, surrounded by nature...
To get there you need to hike so could be a bit of a challenge if you carry luggages :)

The staff and the vibe were amazing. Scenery beautiful
The walk up there was dangerous for children. The rooms didn’t have kitchens/were not self contained as advertised. No AC. No locks on any bedroom doors. Food was bad.

it is a hidden gem in the mountains. Calm, quit and peacefull. They have all the basics that you need and that';s why you enjoy it even more. food is simple but honest and all fresh made, from their own garden, own fruits, own yogurt etc.
nothing really. you need to adapt to the surrounding and once you do, you will see the beauty.
So eventhough the track up is high, the way is hot. they receive you with open arms and you will feel so happy.

beautiful property that dates back to the 1300. the staff lives off the land using local fruits and veggies for meals.
although it is a short hike up a hill which can be hot and long with bags in the summer.
