A hotel that doesn't have curtains to keep the sunlight out in the morning., a heater of any sort, a room telephone to call reception (we had to go down from the 5th floor every time), or staff that care to make your stay comfortable. A very disappointing night's stay.

Its centrally located but hotel has not been updated and looks n feels old. We took twin sharing room which was a bit cramped barely space to move around. Fixtures n furniture deparately needs a refurbish

Location: The best! Walkable to eateries, supermarkets, the panfilov park.
Ambience: The hotel is old and don't expect much from the furnitures and deco. However, the mattress needs an upgrade.
Breakfast: Good spread with plenty to choose from. The dining hall was exquisite!
Staff & service: Excellent! I need to note, they kept my friend's glasses after she only realised it's left in the room 12 hours after checkout. Luckily our itinerary took us back to Almaty a week later and they returned it to her.

Felt like I had fallen into a time travelling machine into the 1970s of Soviet history. If this doesn't appeal to you, then you won't feel the charm of this hotel. It's definitely not got the polish of a 5 star hotel, but it's clean and comfortable. You'll need to ask for the services you need, like room service or laundry (get your Google translate ready if you don't speak Russian or Kazakh) but staff are prepared to help. The breakfast was in a beautiful dining area, but the food itself is pretty blah- probably as sloppy as a school canteen. But it's breakfast and serves the basics of fried eggs, potatoes, pancakes, coffee, cereal, so not gonna complain. The location is AMAZING so overall it's good value for money, as long as you appreciate the historical vibe!
