Modern & Spacious 1 Bed Apt, West End

The place was honestly amazing. We took the tram from the airport and the stop (Princess Street, West End) is literally right around the corner (maybe a 5 min walk from the property). Chris gave us a super detailed message (with a video and pdf manual) explaining how to get in. The property made getting to all of the sites super easy because of its centrality. We had a slight hiccup (it was truly no ones fault) and Chris helped us get everything situated. My husband and I would gladly stay here again.

I wouldn't say there was anything that I didn't like about the property, but there are 2 suggestions I would give. 1) I think it would be a good move for Chris to get on Whatsapp. Communicating with him through Booking.com messaging was a bit cumbersome and I had to send an invite to try to get him on WhatsApp. Considering the location of this property, I can only imaging the number of international tourists trying to stay here, so it would truly make communicating with the host easiest if there was a direct way to call/message if something came up. 2) The bed, while large and comfy, could use an update. I felt a spring against my leg while laying down. Again, not a huge deal, but something I would note.

The location is excellent. The apartment is in a fantastic part of Edinburgh, approximately five minutes’ walk from the West End/Shandwick Place Airlink 100 airport bus stop. It’s very convenient for exploring the city on foot. The kitchen and living room were perfectly fine, and I had no issues with those areas.

Unfortunately, the sleeping experience was extremely disappointing and significantly affected my stay. Mattress: The mattress was terribly uncomfortable and, in my opinion, urgently needs replacing. I spent two extremely uncomfortable nights in that bed, among the worst sleeping experiences I’ve had while travelling. Pillows: The pillows were also very poor and need replacing. Comfortable pillows and a decent mattress are basic expectations, especially at this price. Duvet: I removed the duvet cover to check the manufacturer’s label on the duvet itself, which confirmed that it was 100% polyester. I personally found the duvet extremely hot, uncomfortable, and not breathable. I have a photograph of the label. Bedroom door: The bedroom door was another frustrating issue. It had an awkward latch mechanism at the top, and the heavy door would swing shut abruptly when entering or leaving the bedroom. This made something as simple as walking in and out of the bedroom unnecessarily unpleasant. I also photographed the door. Shower: The shower temperature control was problematic. Despite turning it fully in both directions, the water remained hot, and I couldn’t get it to a comfortably cool temperature. Overall impression The apartment has an excellent location, and the kitchen and living areas were perfectly acceptable. However, the quality of the bed, pillows, duvet, bedroom door, and shower fell well below my expectations. For the price charged, I expected comfortable bedding, a properly functioning shower, and basic attention to these details. With improvements, this could be a very good apartment. Unfortunately, the problems significantly affected my comfort during my two-night stay.
