Won’t use this property again, but will return to Kirkcudbright

Location

No WiFi - not acceptable nowadays, loft bedroom not accessible for persons in their late 60s,floor in living area needs replaced, no freezer - not even an ice compartment in fridge.

Good for a short stay.

Location was very good, within easy walking distance of the facilities in Kirkcudbright. Kitchen reasonably well equipped and the living room was cosy and warm. It was useful to have the use of the attic room, as we needed 2 bedrooms, but the access, via a ladder, wasn't for the faint hearted or less mobile.

The instructions about finding the house were hopeless. The road (Burnside Place) didn't appear to exist. We followed the directions given, asked a local who didn't know, and went round and round Millburn St. The house - No. 2- was round the corner from no. 9 Millburn St. It would be easier to turn left, up Dee Walk before the Dark Sky Planetaarium and at the junction keep straight on and the house is the first on the right. Simple!

I had a very enjoyable stay in this simple but lovely cottage

It’s a characterful old cottage in the lovely town of Kirkcudbright

Nothing about property My problem is with SKYES HOLIDAY COTTAGES. I booked an extra night by mistake and tried to get in contact less than an hour after the mistake . They made it almost impossible to get in touch with them. Customer services were rubbish and no way of calling them and speaking to a human just endless forms which prevented me getting a refund. Also I asked several questions about property before booking and never got replies. Had I booked an airline ticket by mistake it would have been refunded as only an hour afterwards I realised my mistake . The company is very impersonal. They take your money . Give you a list of rules but don’t want you to contact them. It’s all one thing way. They may have some nice properties on their books but if everything goes well you could have a good holiday but I would not trust the company if there are any problems . They very much give the impression that they only care about your money. Not you having a good holiday and probably treat property owners in the same way .

Excellent value but some improvements possible.

Nice and warm on arrival. Very clean. Great kitchen and comfortable lounge. Great location near useful shops and restaurants. Attic room a nice bonus especially with velux windows - nice view of sky on a clear night. Good parking very nearby. Excellent value for money.

Shower has very poor water pressure. No welcome pack / book / information. Requested attic room beds to be made up - this was not done. Not enjoyable making beds on arrival after a long drive. Wifi might be a useful investment in the property. No smoke alarms. Directions to address are useless. On arrival at Kirkudbright go to The Hub Hair and Beauty on Milburn Street, turn into a courtyard with gravel parking. Its the house with a keysafe next to the drainpipe and a number 2 address sign.

Good accomodation but bring your own towels.

The cottage is lovely and cosy. It was very warm and comfortable. It was available last minute and reasonable price.

No towels, when I inquired about bath towels I was told most guests bring their own, I’ve never encountered this before.

well located but old, basic facilities

The property was ideally located and a great base to tour Galloway from. It was located in the heart of Millburn Street area of Kirkcudbright, v.close to the Mill Burn woods & walk. I’ve got border terriers so it was really easy to get them out for short walks as the property didn’t have a yard/garden.

We understood that the cottage facilities were basic but it was well located. However, it would have been good to have had more updated facilities, for those to be good quality & in good order. Unfortunately, one day we had a toilet leak from an old toilet that poured through the ceiling into the kitchen/lounge. It meant mopping up unsanitary water from the lounge/kitchen downstairs and then contacting the host to get the plumber out. My sister and I lost precious time of our one week holiday as we had to clean-up and wait in a dank room for the entire afternoon for the plumber in order to know if the leak could be fixed; otherwise we could have had to leave early for home. Luckily, it was fixed same day by the understanding, expert plumber. Tho because the bathroom floor was so uneven, the toilet then had to be levelled the next day to stop wobbling.

A perfect place to stay in a town where noone wants to go

A complete 2-storey cottage with everything you needed, in a quiet side alley in a good residential area. Well-appointed rooms (open-plan lower floor lounge and kitchen, large bedroom with ensuite above), all necessary things easily available. And even two (!) tellies - one downstairs, one for the bedroom.

Place could have been a bit cleaner, especially the cutlery and crockery - one pot had a thick incrustation of Bisto Best. People across the street got a bit shirty because I put my car in the wrong place, but these are minor complaints.

Really enjoyed Kirkcudbright and the surrounding countryside.

The house was easy to find, comfortable and close to all amenities. There was plenty of parking close by and the house itself was perfect for 2 people.

Delightful town in a very undervisited area of Scotland and a comfortable cottage to stay in.

A very pretty and comfortable cottage in a beautiful town and area. There was nothing lacking in the cottage.

The directions were disastrous. Burnside Place is not on Google Maps and there is no road sign for it. Even the staff in the hairdresser next door did not know where it was! The directions take you to Millburn St, which is a very long road, and they need to tell you how to find Burnside Place off the street. It was 50 minutes after arriving in Millburn St before we found the cottage.

For a single traveller or a couple, a pretty good place to stay.

Location is great and was much cheaper then other properties of a similar tenure.

The place was quite dirty, like an old house that hadn’t been cleaned very well. Also no wifi in the property. The upstairs bedroom is not suitable for anything other than if you bring your own kids as it’s accessed through the bathroom. If you had other guests up there the door is open right into the bathroom.

Burnside Place

The host asks you to contact them even though there is no name or telephone number supplied. In our case we messaged through Sykes Cottage but received no reply. This does not inspire confidence. The place was warm and the bed comfortable. There are two additional beds in the loft which require you to take a chair into the bathroom to access a ladder.

There were two televisions when we arrived neither of which worked. We managed to get one to work by swapping connections. The kitchen was fully equipped but no dishtowels or oven gloves were supplied. No bathroom towels were supplied and there was no towel rail in the bathroom. Furnishing was adequate but there were no bedside tables. The property was reasonable value but could be much better with some care and attention.

Lovely 4 night sojourn in cosy cottage.

The cottages was warm and cosy, well-located for the town.

Boiler in the bedroom was a bit noisy (unexpected early morning wake-up call) but we got accustomed to that!

The cottage provided a good base for exploring the area and the weather was great.

The cottage was in a quite street but close to the centre of town.

The boiler was in the bedroom and came on and off during the night which disturbed our sleep. We couldn't find the wheelie bin we were supposed to put our rubbish in.
