Not recommended at all

The property had a long list of defects, but we were pleased that the owners were able to move us after two days to a better property. This review concerns Lonsdale House only.

Use of the "Luxe" branding for this property gives a misleading impression. The apartment is shabby and overpriced. Specific issues are: noisy uninsulated floor, sticky dining table, inadequate lighting for the dark decor, unsupported shower tray, leaky shower, windows that couldn't be closed (or opened again once the owners had done a quick-fix), no drinking glasses suitable for water, wine, or beer, incorrect wifi details in the notes, cheap upcycled furniture. I'd urge people to check all the ratings, and not rely on on the headline average. And definitely don't attempt to sleep the theoretical maximum of five people, because there is neither seating nor kitchen utensils for that many. The owners did their best to fix issues, but relied on guests to point things out. They only visit their 14 properties in person typically once a month (we were told), and rely on the cleaners to pick up defects. Somehow, that windows have seized up had escaped their notice. A "Luxe"-branded property requires an attention to detail by the owners that is wholly lacking. We met face-to-face to go through these points but they seemed surprised that I expected issues like these to be addressed pro-actively BEFORE guests arrive.

Nice place but overpriced.

The apartment is well appointed and as advertised. The sea view is over a block away and only from a bay window in the kitchen. There are 4 parking spaces for 6 apartments, and it is first come first serve. So you could be without a parking space, and the street spaces are very difficult to find on weekends. Our only real complaint is the severe overpricing making this a poor value. We paid nearly usd 500 for the one night including the cleaning fee! It was a last minute booking that evening. Also, the host requested my credit card info for a deposit which I refused for the one night stay, and I believe this is against booking.com policy? (At least this policy is not disclosed on booking.com in the details when you book). When we awoke Sunday morning, two nearby bakeries were closed, and all restaurants were closed, so we ended up buying packaged goods at the grocery store for breakfast, Overall, if the price was half of what was charged, we would stay here again, otherwise we would pass!

Clean, neat and tidy, however …

Apartment was clean and tidy. Close to Co-Op for grocery supplies. Nice to look out the front window and see a glimpse of the sea.

For the high price charged - more than half a roll of toilet paper for 4 nights would be expected; the flooring was like continually walking on bubble wrap - terrible; floor also slippery unless in bare feet or shoes - hazard for older people; pillows were cheap and lumpy; bathrooms were barely bigger than the hand towels; couldn’t watch TV without an account for Netflix etc so we couldn’t watch any TV while there!!; hard place to find - couldn’t find “No 41” - needs description of Cnr Queen & Victoria Sts (above florist); parking is bad - only 3 spots for 5 or 6 units - street parking hard to find; not soundproof from the giant upstairs!! Strong smell of smoke in stairs and foyer areas. We had high expectations for the price we paid and compared to the other places we have stayed at.

Great location and very clean

Location was great within 2 min walk to No 12 bus route to ryhl and centre of town,beds and seating were comfy,apartment was clean and communication was great.

Flooring was noisy,tv was difficult to use,noise from flat upstairs,unable to park in allocated parking (4 parking spaces for i think 5 or 6 flats)but did find ftee on street parking right by block which we left the car for our 2 night stay.

The property was exactly like the photos which isn’t always the case. Very clean and had everything you needed. Kitchen and bathroom were fabulous. Close to the front and parking was right outside the building. Great communication from hosts before and after stay.

Really minor gripe but unable to watch any live TV as no freeview channels, only catch up such as iPlayer and ITV hub so couldn’t see any of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations live and as they happened.

Spacious apartment with nice views of sea and mountains

Spacious house with nice views of sea and mountains. Cooperative host who answered my phone calls after 8pm.

Could not sleep at first night because it was cold. It took us a while to understand how to use a heating system . Check out time was between 8-11 am but we received a message asking to check out before 10am. Any way, we left at 10.30 am and the host did not issue us with reprimands.

Nice few days away

The location was suitable for us as we enjoy walking however not so good for those who would prefer a more central/town location. The off street parking is a bonus but as we were advised it is first come first served, so once we had a space we didn't want to risk losing it so didn't use the car at all. The apartment is safe, well maintained inside, clean and comfortable with good kitchen facilities, free WiFi and a nice sea view. The welcome basket was a nice touch and appreciated.

The communal entrance area is not very inviting. The lack of TV channels is poor considering the price charged and if you don't have your own Netflix, BBC i player and itv hub accounts then you can't watch anything. We had to use our own accounts to watch programmes and films which we have never had to do in other apartments. Couple of niggles in the bathroom, some towel hooks would be useful, shower gel with the shampoo and conditioner and some sort of shelf to put your soap/shower gel on. Unfortunately for us the upstairs neighbours were quite noisy throughout the night on one of our nights so we didn't get much sleep. It would be good to be advised in advance that some of the apartments have private residents and are not holiday rental properties.

Provided with some food items milk etc. This was really useful to start the stay off. Nice touch. Plenty of towels. Very clean apartment. Nice decor. Bay window in dining area. Great shower. Good information provided by owner in email on how to access apartment etc.

Key code lock box. A bit of a fiddle. Takes a bit or working out if you haven't used this kind before. Buttons could be bigger. I think this could be difficult for old people or those with poor dexterity. Could use extra shelf space in bathroom and some clothing hooks. These were both however minor issues.

No TV channels on the one TV in the living room - had access to Netflix and a couple of catch up apps. No TV in the bedroom - would be nice to relax watching TV in bed

Lovely apartment

The apartment was absolutely beautiful!The location was perfect, a 2 minute walk from the seaside. The overall stay was great! I had small issues whilst i was there, the owners were nice enough to assist me as much as they could. They are very friendly and helpful, they made my little get away enjoyable. They even provided a very cute card and gift for my sister (who’s birthday was during the stay). it’s hard to fault such a great property

The apartment itself had all the facilities needed. The owners were very attentive and responded almost immediately when contacted. They also left a welcome gift after finding out it was mum's 60th recently which was a really nice touch. The interior design was aesthetically pleasing whilst maintaining comfort. Kitchen has everything needed. Shower is amazing. Beds allow for comfortable night's sleep Location was perfect - surrounded by restaurants and across the road from an amazing chippy. Sea view from dining table with the promenade around the corner (20 min walk to the pier) I'll definitely be booking again!
