The boiler had problems

It was the perfect retreat for my summer school in Oxford. It was clean, comfortable, and cute. The fan was great in the heatwave, and the ventilation was good. I appreciated the security. It was also very convenient for the bus stops into Oxford! Part of my stay, others stayed with me and it was roomy enough for 4 people.

Cons: The stove top is slow to warm up, but that is a tiny little niggle. The dishwasher didn’t work when I was there, but I’m sure that will be fixed by now.

The location near the bus stop and near the grocery store was great. The washer worked (though we had to clean it out before using it). Sheets and towels were clean.

We travelled for two months this summer and this was definitely the place with the lowest quality of all the places we stayed. I see that it has gotten a 10 several times in years past, but it is absolutely not a 10 now. The three biggest issues are as follows: 1.The carpet is very dirty. We felt it necessary to wear shoes the entire time to avoid stepping in stains of questionable origin. The carpet should be changed before renting to any other guests. 2. The sofa was very dirty and should be either replaced or recovered before any other guests stay here. 3.The mattresses were very uncomfortable - you can feel all the metal wires in them the whole time. They either need changed or a topper needs added to make them useable. Other smaller issues could be easily fixed by the host: 1. Replace moldy caulking behind the bathtub and kitchen sink. 2. Replace or throw away throw pillows that are dingy and feel greasy. 3. Replace rusty dish drainer and toilet roll holder. 4. Wipe down the walls near the light switches and rubbish bin. 5. Wipe the refrigerator handles. 6. Wipe the lid of the rubbish bin so it is not so yucky. We did that ourselves. 7. Check the cleanliness of the dishes. We had to rewash many dishes before using them. 8. Wipe out the washer between guests. 9. Charge the damage deposit only one time. We were charged 3 times with 2 times refunded quickly, then the third time taking 8 days before being refunded. This is an excessive amount of time to wait for the return of a damage deposit for an apartment that was not in acceptable condition to begin with. 10. Use booking.com OR Beds Away, but not Beds Away through booking.com, as Beds Away requires payment through email which is against booking.com policy. Those two agencies don't work and play well together. A smaller issue which is not the fault of the host is that the windows all get a lot of afternoon sun making the apartment hard to cool with a fan.
