-Location - perfect for exploring old town, 15 min walk to the train station which has excellent connections (we went to Strasbourg, Eguisheim, Sélestat and the Chateau Haut Koenigsbourg) The views from the apartment are really nice. The old town is very picturesque and the Christmas lights started to go up early November. The cathedral was lit up at night and it was really pretty walking around the quiet streets. Tip- weekend was very busy even in early season! If you like quiet/ less chaos then go end of October/early November as we did :) Christmas markets don’t go up until 24 November - they are getting everything ready now. - The apartment is decorated really nicely and feels very homey. Gorgeous wooden beams throughout, nice wall mural and a wicker pram with books in. There were some Halloween and Christmas decorations up which was a nice touch, sweets left out and some coffee. It was also nice to read and write in the guestbook :-) even though it is on a main street it was not too noisy (occasionally people walking past at night / across from the apartment in the courtyard, but not for long) but the church bells go off and there is some construction happening at the moment. It didn’t really disturb us too much though. - Good amenities - large fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee pod machine, cafetière. It was a good functional kitchen and it helped being able to make snacks and a few meals in comfort. There was only a drop of cooking oil though in the cupboard, so not ideal when we planned to cook and paid for self catering amenities. The local Monoprix is good for supermarket essentials and we used this a few times to buy what we needed. - Individually controlled heaters - really handy! Clothes maiden in the cupboard which we used once. - Good hot shower and heated towel rail - really nice to dry clothes and towels.
- Constant buzzing from electricity cupboard - luckily at night closing the door drowned some of this out but the bedroom door does not fully close. Bring earplugs if you are sensitive / light sleeper. - the winding staircase is very dark when the light sensor goes off (it goes off quickly) so have your torch / phone just incase. Dark even in the day due to only small windows. - no pillow cases on the pillows on arrival, messaged host to ask the next day and these were stored under the ottoman bed. However, this seems to be broken and does not stay up when you lift it, so was quite difficult to access. - light by the sink that we were advised to use was not charged so didn’t work - luckily I had a charger that fitted so I charged it myself - the property was hard to find at night as no signage, and no data connection. There was no picture of the front of property to help and due to being a late arrival the hosts were not contactable. The taxi was not able to drive down grand rue and dropped us round the corner, he also did not know where the apartment was to direct us (he didn’t seem to care to be honest) Local people tried to help us (the waiter in the brassiere across the street) but he also couldn’t find the property. We only had a picture of the view from the apartment to know the approximate location but could not see anything resembling an apartment front (they are all shops and restaurants) This was confusing, stressful and not a good way to start a trip (anxiety and stress) as it took us over 40 minutes walking around in the dark with luggage. Eventually we saw what looked like a glass shop door with a dark number 14 above it and this was it. What added to the upset was that I had mentioned to the hosts prior to the trip my concern about potentially not being able to find the property at night and our late arrival being an issue but no further instructions were given.

The property is on the main street of Colmar, Grand Rue, just in the middle. 15 minutes walk from train station. We liked the fact that is in a historical building and that is pretty well renovated. Acces was quite easy, check in was earlier that initially announced. There is a dishwasher, a coffee machine (although it will be nice to have pads for 2 days, as we've stayed, not just for one), a washing machine, iron and basically everything you need for a pleasant stay. There are restaurants and bistros close by.
There is no AC and the property is on last floor (3rd). During our stay there was no need for AC, as it was nice, like 24 C max, yet, during hot summer days it might be a problem to consider. Also, I found quite strange to have the toilet in a separate room with no sink in it, so you are not able to wash your hands, you have to exit and go in the main bathroom to wash your hands. It seems to be the standard in the area, but is still strange. At same chapter, at strange things, I've found strange the request to remove all the bed sheets before we leave. There is a pillar in the middle of the kitchen that I've personally hit several times...
