We loved the peace and quiet, it’s full filled with pure Nature, wildlife friendly on the camp site.

The location amazing so no noise, alot of games and movies,lot of kitchen equipment.

The location amazing, the cabin needs a bit tlc but is ok we were not asking much,but the cleanning was awfull.was all really dirty. Need to pay more attention towards the cabin. Also most of the equipment is broken.

Peaceful and wholesome :)

Peaceful location Had lots of fun in the river on very hot days! Easy to visit other towns/walks The kitchen is equipped with absolutely everything you can think of! Lovely, quirky decor Games, DVD’s and books galore! Great communication from Tom the host, very friendly and helpful! Mattress in main bedroom was super comfy, we both slept like a log every night :)

Only minor thing was shower water we couldn’t seem to get hot water out the shower only luke warm in one of our chalets but the other one had lovely hot water so we all used the other shower

Peaceful escape.

A lovely, cozy, comfortable cabin, it has everything you need away from home, chocolates and flowers were a nice touch. Decor quirky and lots of personal touches, Duvet and pillows are very comfortable. Secure deck was great for our dog. Park pretty and very peaceful, only a short distance from the town, plenty of places to eat. Elan valley not far away. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Cabin tired in places and could do with a deep clean,(sorry) we really enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

We spent Christmas here and it was lovely had everything you would need even bord games and toys had excellent facilities comfortable beds load of blankets lovely kitchen very close to the rive and only a 25 min drive to ellanvally was lovely thank-you tom

Exceptional

When we booked our stay Tom messagd straight away telling me how to find the property etc, he was very informative. Builth wells is very nice, it has a Co op and Londis which were a 5/10 minute drive from the holiday park. It also has plenty of places to eat, restaurants and takeaways. The next town has an Aldi and a Tesco which is about 15/20 minutes drive. When we arrived at the park it was very peaceful and had lots of rabbits and ducks walking around which the children loved! There were chocolates and flowers on the table on our arrival which was a lovely touch! Thankyou. We loved the location of the cabin, it was near a grass area which we could see from our decking so felt safe letting the children play. At the end of the grass area was the river which the children enjoyed playing in with the fishing rods. Inside was very clean and tidy, plenty of tea towels, cutlery etc. there was also plenty of games and toys for the children and us to play with. We all slept really well as the beds were so comfy and the pillows very soft. Our dog loved exploring the river and walking around the park. We would 100% recommend and would stay again!

Bathroom could be cleaned a bit better in our opinion but in general place was nice and tidy.

Lovely location, had plenty appliances e.g. air fryer.

Dog's had to be kept on lead at all times apart from the porch but our dog was small enough to fit through the fence and because we wanted to have BBQs in the evening and no BBQ was available to use on the porch we could only use a portable one by a small bit of gravel which was hidden away from the views and our dog did not like to be on the lead if not walked and would cry if locked inside when we where outside which did ruin the time we spent.

Hicks' family vacation - 100% worth it!

We had a lovely 4-night stay at Tom's Retreat. The chalet is in a very peaceful and beautiful location. Boarded by the river Irfon, which connects to the river Wye. Both the river and the surrounding area was teaming with native wildlife of all shapes and sizes (mallard ducks, pheasants, blue tits, woodpecker, wood pigeons to rabbits, and livestock). The chalet has it's own Terrance area, which is fenced and gated off. This aspect was really good for a family, friendly safe zone for our child. The wooden flooring is slippery when wet, but there are reminder signs around the outside as a warning. Tom also has a search light on the porch which is actived at night. There is parking right outside the chalet entrance enough for one vehicle. A box of chocolates and flowers were provided on our arrival with a welcome pack - rules of Tom's Retreat and emergency contact details etc. The chalet has had a little revamp compared to the photos on booking.com. However, it was so cosy and lovely. It had all the amenities of home (gas stove and oven, kettle, microwave, air fryer and fridge with a small freezer box section inside). It also had some toys (mega blocks, Lego) for our child, drawing paper, some pencils, puzzles and card gamesgames/board games). Communication with owner - Tom was very quick to respond to any queries and questions prior and during our stay. Fishing lake (on site) was extremely well stocked with multiple large carp, plenty of perch, as well as rudd as these were the only ones my partner could catch or see. You will need a valid rode license as well as purchasing a fishing pass/permit from Contis (shop) in the town. If you require any help or anymore information the on site warden and wildlife game warden are always happy to help!

Double single bedroom window did not lock properly (this is where our child slept). Had a few difficulties with my EE signal/data, however my partners O2 worked without a problem but these are the only negatives we could say about our whole stay at Tom's Retreat as otherwise it was an absolutely wonderful stay and an absolute pleasure.

Tom's retreat was fab

The cabin was comfortable and tidy and in a lovely spot in Builth Wells. Beautiful walks around the grounds and the hotel grounds next door too. Everybody was so friendly on the site and around the town.

The cabin was clean(ish) but could have done with a dust and a mop before we arrived. The park warden loves the sound of his own voice, we hadn't been in the park 5 minutes before he was shouting at us for pulling over to ring Tom (cabin owner, who was very helpful)!!

excellent area to explore based at quiet lodge near the river

we needed a post Christmas retreat and this is what we got at Toms .It is set amid about 60 other lodges yet was very quiet after Christmas but I expect very busy in the summer months .The lodge has a fenced balcony but otherwise open plan ,one other lodge between Toms and the river ( not fenced ) and easyto drive into town .Parking at side of lodge . we loved the wine and chocolates though I would have prefered milk .There is a co op in town with free parking so go there on the way for milk . well equipped kitchen ,toys for the children plus a few DVDs plenty of heating .

No internet ,it does say so in the information online .The information in lodge gives log in details . The lodge shown online is not the same place as we got . Its alot smaller than expected ,the double bedroom is cramped and you can not walk along the sides youll need to go sideways .The bed was very uncomfortable and by now hopefully Tom will have replaced it . All duvets are feather which should be mentioned for the asthmatics with feather allergies . Generally not very clean hopefully now it will be shiney and spotless . Twin room also very small Steps up to very narrow front door but you can use patio door which is wider . I wouldn’t recommend Toms for tall large people as space is limited . Be aware that the steps and decking are very slippery when wet as is all decking

wow what a lovely cosy cabin with everything you could possibly need, we even had milk in the fridge and a box of chocolates for when we arrived! plenty of toys and games for kids to the play with and a secure decking area which was great for our dog. Thank you for a lovely weekend away Tom.

Terrible experience. Filthy in places. Stained blind, stained and dirty oven glove, old food in freezer compartment, dirty grill pan, food stuck to oven, microwave had old spattered food all over the inside, leaf in the shower, filthy food tray, macdonalds sachet on floor..the list goes on, Just felt like the place hadn't been cleaned.. Boiler intermittent and owner couldn't produce gas safety certificate. Had to leave as couldnt risk another night....

Upon arriving at the property we found it had been double booked and the other customers were already in residence! This was not the ideal start to our break however on phoning the owner he very quickly came up with alternative accommodation in an adjacent lodge and also very kindly delivered an apology by way of wine & chocs which was much appreciated. I understand that that the lodge had been booked again through another website long after our booking was made & confirmed. Clearly this shouldn't happen but on this occasion fortunately it worked out OK for us.

Nightmare

We got moved to the chalet next door.

We paid for a 2 bed, 2 bathroom, river view chalet, we got a filthy, dirty, shabby 2 bed, 1 bathroom, no river view hovel, we did get moved to his chalet next door after showing the owner the filthy conditions & explaining what we we're described & paid for wasn't what we we're getting, even when we agreed to move next door, we had to take the bedding with us as the bedding that was made up on the beds had been used & just remade from the previous guests! Used dog pooh bags (4) outside the veranda, just glad we could stay with family/friends all day so only had to sleep there.

Perfect quiet location! Amazing place!

This was an incredible find. Such a quiet tranquil location. The chalet had everything you could possibly need and more. It had a very homely feel about it. Love that there were lots of games and DVDs for children to enjoy! We didn't get around to using them though, as too busy exploring the beautiful Elan Valley Dams, Builth Wells and spending time with Friends who were also staying in another chalet on site. Tom from the start was very helpful. Gave us lots of information prior to our stay and always at the end of the phone when issues arise. Unfortunately the boiler stopped working on our last nignt and shower running cold. After contacting Tom, the problems were resolved very quickly. We cannot ask for better service than this. We also wanted to extend our stay for an extra night. We contacted Tom and he agreed to extend. The whole process was very stress free. Thank you Tom!

Only minor downside is the main bed was too hard for us. But that's more of a personal preference and can't please everyone 😊
