The staff/owners were exceptional! We did one of the bird tours and it was great. We loved the vibe there and would not hesitate to recommend the place to other birders/naturalists.... anyone!

We loved our stay at Birds and Breakfast. Fabio and Marce were incredible hosts. We loved hearing their passion and vision for Birds and Breakfast. My wife and I stayed 4 nights at this location. We would not describe ourselves as active birders, however, -Fabio, Marce and other guests staying here made us feel right at home and were excited to educate and help us experience birding and nature in this rural mountain setting of Costa Rica. Breakfast was a fun unique experience -delicious also. Bring binoculars. You will want 4wheel drive to get to this location as it is 1-2 miles up a somewhat steep gravel road from town. Fabio took us on a night walk into the jungle and around the property- this was fun to see and hear things we otherwise would miss. They were also helpful in suggesting other places to explore/hike during our stay. We also explored Fortuna/Arenal area from this stay. It is about a 45min drive from Birds and Breakfast but did not feel to far. Baldi Hotsprings was a nice way to soak and relax one afternoon/evening.
You will want a vehicle with either all wheel drive or 4x4 to get to this location. We had a rental with all wheel drive and had no trouble.

Fantastic place. Comfortable, clean, welcoming. Beautiful location, requires a car (as anything worth visiting in Costa Rica). Highly recommend bird watching with Luis, one of our Costa Rican highlights. If you have a car, don’t stay in overly touristy La Fortuna, this is really where it’s at.
