This lodge has a lot of potential, but our experience did not meet expectations for the price paid, particularly when compared with other lodges we have stayed at across South Africa. The staff were friendly and welcoming, although there were lapses in attention to detail. For example, despite explaining several times that I do not eat red meat, I was still served sausages and asked if I would eat beef. Service was slow and at times did not feel as polished as expected. On one evening, we asked whether our tent flaps had been closed and, were told that they had been, we returned from dinner to find them left open in the middle of a thunder storm. There were also some basic shortcomings, such as no umbrellas around the pool and insufficient loungers for the number of guests. Certain elements of the room felt cheaply constructed, including a flimsy clothes rail that would come apart when removing hangers. Mealtimes were also unnecessarily stressful, as guests were not given any choice in advance and did not know what would be served. A small selection to choose from ahead of time, as is customary at many comparable lodges, would greatly improve the experience and help reduce food waste, as we were often served items we did not wish to eat and had to leave.
