Home Farm

We liked EVERYTHING about this fantastic property. Home Farm was immaculate. It was equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need. A fantastic property for seven of us. Very homely with beautiful and tasteful decor. It was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and in a beautiful setting. We saw deer, a red squirrel, numerous varieties of birds and a barn owl with its babes! Paul, the owner greeted us very warmly on arrival, and was really lovely. So very helpful.

We found the perfect place for our family vacation at Home Farm in Oban. Paul is an incredibly warm and friendly host who was very helpful with extra recommendations about the area. Home Farm is just outside Oban but feels like it’s deep in the countryside. You have easy access to the restaurants, shops, and ferries to Mull, Kerrera etc but when you return to the house, you are instantly away from all that bustle. It is hard to find enough superlatives to describe the house and the accommodations. Original parts of farmhouse date back to the 16th century and it was expanded significantly in the 1900s to become a gracious manor house. Imagine a stunning wooden staircase, doors, windows and mantels in the arts and crafts style. Everything has been meticulously restored and decorated by Paul and his partner. We were a large family party, 3 couples, 2 singles and a toddler! (There was a high chair for our granddaughter and Paul would have helped with a cot if needed. There was also access to washers and dryers in the byre, a step across the courtyard from the main house). All 5 beautifully appointed bedrooms (4 en-suite and 1 with a full bathroom just down the hall) had very comfortable beds and crisp linens. We all slept very well! The kitchen was large and well stocked with dishes, pots and pans and utensils. We did a lot of self catering, and cooking in that bright, well designed kitchen was a pleasure. The large main room had comfortable sofas and easy chairs with a long dining table which accommodated all of us comfortably. It had lovely deep windows with views across the garden. It was the perfect place to watch the varied bird life as well as the red squirrels! In addition there was a large projection screen that drops from above where we were able to watch some of the opening matches of the World Cup and movies. That was a lot of fun! There was also a cozy “snug” where you could listen to vinyl albums from Paul’s wide ranging collection.
