Hotel Kandilj

Great location, great hosts. Nice, traditional Bosnian house and aesthetics. But most of all, great hosta and people working there. Everyone was open and friendly. They would prepare you handmade omelette and Bosnian coffee every morning. But most importantly, you can feel that their hospitality is genuine.

The room was a bit small and close to the entrance so it can get a bit noisy in the morning.

Room and Toilet are clean. Breakfast basic. Location is great.

There is nothing really I did not like.

The staff were very friendly and helpful in navigating the city. The room was clean. They had nice treats in a bowl for guests and they had a free breakfast which was unexpected.

The staff and guests smoked and talked in the courtyard for hours and my room was number 1 so right by the door and the window could not be open because of all the smoke and noise. I was woken up multiple times because my room was by the entry and the entry door stuck so the was loud as well as people talking as they entered. The tea kettle had paint or some inside and I couldn’t clean in the bathroom sink because it wouldn’t fit well in the sink. There were no vegan or gluten free options that were hearty or offered protein or milk alternatives, no oatmeal, overnight oats, chia pudding, tofu scramble, etc but I realize that’s likely not cost effective but others with these dietary needs should know. Also, wifi was a bit slow as I had some work to do and it was somewhat challenging.

It’s not ideal for those expecting a luxurious or very extensive breakfast; however, for guests looking for a local, clean, quiet, and genuinely warm morning breakfast, it is quite satisfying.

The bathroom did not seem well maintained: there was a noticeable lack of detailed cleaning, especially in the tile grout, shower area, and around the sink. Both the room and the bathroom lacked the fresh feeling of having been newly cleaned. Although the towels were clean, the room was not serviced during the day despite placing the “please clean” sign. Despite the hotel’s warm and friendly atmosphere, it is clear that a more regular and thorough cleaning standard is needed for both the room and the bathroom.
