About this chalet rental
Renovated 1850's barn with 3 bedrooms and an ample loft space that can serve as a fourth. Building also has a large rec room with cathedral ceiling buttressed by hand-hewn beams, well-equipped kitchen, Scandinavian wood stove, sauna, home gym, and projector. Outside: 2 private decks with amazing views of Overlook Mountain, private grill, private hot tub. On property: shared tennis court, swing set, fishing pond, heated pool (summer only). 2 hours from NYC, 10 min. to Woodstock & Saugerties.
This 12-acre property is truly unique, with so much to do on site you will never want to leave. Perfect for a family or several couples wanting to get away from the city. Wilderkill includes fields, a fire pit for bonfires, paths through the woods, a stream, a pond, a cedar jungle gym with swings and a slide, a sandbox, a tennis court, a heated outdoor pool (open May-October). The barn has two decks, incredible mountain views, a private outdoor grill, a private outdoor fire pit, a private hot tub, and a private sauna. Inside the barn, there are custom furnishings throughout. Upstairs you will find an enormous rec room with a pool/ping-pong table, a baby grand piano, multiple workspaces, and lots of space to relax or host a dinner. Also upstairs in the barn is a bathroom with a shower/bath; the kitchen space, which is replete with a Scandinavian wood stove and sitting area; and two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two twins. Above the two bedrooms is a large loft space that can be used for relaxing or for sleeping additional guests, since it has a queen bed. Downstairs in the barn you will find a home gym/screening room with an elliptical machine, a weight machine, a projector and bean bags. You can use the space to work out, do yoga, or screen sports games, movies, and exercise classes. Also downstairs is a private bedroom with a queen bed, desk, and couch; a bathroom with a shower; and a massive garage space with a refrigerator that can store ski equipment, hiking gear, and extra provisions. We strongly prefer to rent to families & small groups of adults. Please, no parties!
The Wilderkill Retreat shares its 12-acre property with a beautifully maintained Dutch colonial house. Renters will have access to all the facilities on the property except this house, which may be owner-occupied when renters visit. Renters will have priority access to the shared facilities.

Yes, property was so easy to rent! Every single thing was explained! This was the most clean house that I had ever rented and they were extra supplies of everything. The grounds were beautiful. The house was

Bill and MC were wonderful hosts. They were very communicative and accommodating during our stay and provided a great guide for the area that we thought was so helpful. The property itself has so much to do on it that you don’t ever have to leave. Our young children were occupied the entire time, but the great thing was that it could accommodate for any age range. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked, amazing views that no review can do justice towards, saunas, movie room/area, billiards/table tennis, pool, tennis, hot tub, bbq, fire pits, swing set…and the list goes on. The property is close to multiple towns as well making it very convenient to explore and try out nearby hiking trails. Awesome stay and thanks so much for having us!

The property is tranquil, private and the Mountain View is beautiful. My teens fished at the pond and near by stream, we took day trips; hiking to Kaaterskill falls, Kayak/Paddle boarded to the light house, swam/floated in “Big Deep.” There is plenty of entertainment for all ages back at the house, we floated in the pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi under the stars….hard to leave!!!

I’ve put off writing this review because our stay at Wilderkill was so perfect that I know whatever I say won’t do it justice. But I'll try...
Bill and MC were amazing hosts, always super responsive. A question never went unanswered for more than a few minutes, and usually not even that long. The property was breathtaking, the house was spotless (and beautifully designed), and everything worked perfectly the entire time. Our kids especially loved the pool and playground. My husband and I enjoyed hitting tennis balls and shooting hoops (we keep a Pop-A-Shot in our NYC apartment and take our shooting contests very seriously, ha). We grilled almost every day, and we got in the hot tub almost every night. The fire pit was a real treat, too. We also need to work remotely for a couple weeks during our stay, and the WiFi was always very strong (for anyone who has the unfortunate burden of staying connected to the outside world like we had to). I could go on and on, but just know that this place is magic. We spent almost a month in the barn, we loved every minute, and we can’t wait to visit again someday.
