The Crown Inn at Benson

Loved the food and service and it's position close enough to Henley for the HRR.

The hot water system at least for our room was intermittent. The room is great for one night. The breakfast was cold no hot or warm dishes.

Great welcome from owner, John, and his team. Great room.

Excellent all around. Very peaceful, beautiful old inn on the high street in Benson. Comfortable and very good value. All good, would definitely come back.

Great location to access Henley and the Regatta. The staff members both mornings at breakfast were friendly, helpful and chatty. Breakfast was simple but good. Despite the room being above the bar, and looking out over the terrace seating it was surprisingly not noisy.

On arrival, I was pretty much blanked by one staff member behind the bar, I had to almost step in front of her to stop her walking past me for the 3rd time having waited for her to finish serving one person. The bar was not busy, just two other customers and 2 staff. When she eventually did address me, it was with a blank expression, no greeting followed by confusion at my comment that I wished to check in, on seeking guidance from the other bar person she walked off. The second person and youngish man in his 20s stepped forward; again no greeting looked at the check in screen and announced that's £196.00 whilst thrusting the card machine in front of me. He did ask begrudgingly if I needed to be shown to my room. He was kind enough to allow me to use the bar freezer to chill down some icepacks I required for the next day, it was just such a shame at the lack of initial welcome. Guests are most likely to have travelled some distance if they are staying, I would suggest a minimum welcome would be Hello, and maybe "how was your journey not "this is what you owe us!" Beverage products (coffee sachets)were not replaced by room service when they made up the room leaving me with no coffee for the next morning. Room kettle and shower heads need descaling as both were pretty furred up.
