Reindeer Lodge

Breakfast was excellent and the whole place(including the reindeer) was magical. Would love to stay there again.

It was a lovely step out of busy life; a great traditional Sami lodging experience. Breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed the sauna. The reindeer were wonderful just outside our Ghoati and we loved discovering about the Sami history and culture.

We booked based on the website which says there is a shuttle service between Kiruna and the accommodation, but this turned out not to be available in this season. The return trip by taxi was very expensive and not something we had budgeted for. The sauna and the outdoor hot tub were lovely but take several hours to heat up and as guests we have to light and stoke the fires ourselves. It would be very helpful if these facilities were readied by the staff for an agreed time, making the experience much more pleasurable. We were able to hire bikes which was very nice, (and necessary! As we had no other means of transport) but costs were high. The issue with transport was the biggest thing for us and had the website made it clear that they no longer offer a shuttle service or help in this area, we would have chosen an alternative.

We loved this place. The staff was super friendly and helped us out when the airlines lost our luggage. The rooms were cozy and warm. They feed the reindeer every morning at 10 am and it was one of my favorite things I did this trip. The food was great and they had traditional dinners (arctic char, moose meatballs, reindeer stew, and beet stew were the dinner options when we were there). Lots of options on the breakfast bar. We walked across the frozen lake and went to the Sami museum. Also enjoyed the sauna and hot tub.

It wasn’t a problem for us but they have shared bathrooms that are in a separate building.

We all enjoyed feeding the reindeer after a good breakfast! Our hut was comfortable and warm.
