About this apartment rental

Engulfed by world-famous history, this regal, contemporary apartment with a lift is located on the second piano nobile of this Lucca-based palazzo dating back to the 1200s. Geometrical lines and French windows lead to private intimate rooms with tranquil views of the surrounding medieval buildings and the Guinigi Tower next door. Take a short, scenic walk to the Amphitheatre Square (the oldest Roman Arena today one of the most famous Italian landmarks) and discover a new favorite gelato or espresso spot. Meet your loved ones for breakfast in the formal dining room while gazing upon the ancient buildings of Lucca that line Via Guinigi. Enjoy air conditioning and WiFi while deciding upon the day’s sightseeing plan. Or just hit the streets and wander. San Giovanni church with its bespoke Puccini Concerts, Piazza San Michele, San Martino Cathedral, and Corso Garibaldi are within 5 minutes. A vibrant atmosphere drifts from one frescoed room to another at this beautifully restored piano nobile apartment in Lucca’s Medieval District. Set in the 12th-century Palazzo Guinigi, once the formal residence of the Lords of Lucca, the apartment offers a taste of life in an era of grand entertaining—along with plenty of modern comforts. It’s across from Via Fillungo and next to the Cathedral area, a few minutes walk from the city’s best-known sights. The private living room overlooking the city is the perfect spot for an afternoon spritz and snack while watching the city pass by. The fully equipped kitchen is the perfect place for foodies while the grand dining table is ideal for experiencing cooking classes with a local chef thanks to the in-room kitchenette. Don’t miss the Venus bath: the medieval bathroom of the Lords is now converted into a SPA room featuring a Jacuzzi hot tub to pamper yourself in warm bubbling waters after a day of sightseeing. The apartment’s double entrance leads to a pair of elegant salons that show off its scale and style, with original paintings twining up the walls and colorful frescoes gracing the ceilings. Today, they’re set up as a formal living and dining room whose wooden floors are covered with antique and modern furniture. Off the living area, find a fully equipped 21st-century kitchen, where light-colored cabinetry echoes the delicate tones of the frescoes in the other rooms. The apartment's five bedrooms likewise balance a charming, bucolic elegance with chic modernist touches. 3 suites have king-size beds, one has 2 large-size twin beds and another one has two twin beds, all featuring ensuite bathrooms orned by Carrara marble from the Michelangelo cave. Discovering Tuscany using a car or train can’t be easier: either safe car parking and the Lucca train station are between 5 and 10 mins walk away. From there you can explore the best-kept Italian secrets, such as Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano, Cinque Terre, Volterra, Bolgheri, Pistoia, Montecatini Terme, Livorno, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Chianti, Garfagnana and Siena.Wifi speed: 83 mbps

Our week at Medieval was amazing! So close to everything but in a calm area. Amazing view on Guinigi Terrace and a very nice outdoor cinema very close to the house. The people at Lucca appartments answered quick on all of our questions :)

Comfort, safety, cleanliness, location- all at highest level. If you stay more than 2 nights you need more towels and bed sheets change. There is a washing machine, so you can help yourself with these.

I thought it as very beautiful and accommodated our family’s needs very well. Perhaps a bigger coffee pot. There were 7 of us and only two Italian coffee makers for 2 cups and 4 cups. Other than that tutto bene!

The apartment is beautifully renovated and outfitted with everything you need. Five bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms and two living rooms. It was perfect for a group trip for a week. Everyone had somewhere to retreat to when needed or we could gather and enjoy meals and games in the common spaces. The location is excellent with everything you need within walking distance. The jacuzzi is a fun bonus. The internet repeater on the left side of the apartment (where there are two bedrooms) was very slow, not sure if it was working of it was too far from the router? Also a jacuzzi manual might be good to leave in the apartment. On our last night there we accidentally hit the wrong buttons and it stopped working, but we weren't sure what the error codes meant.

The apartment was perfect for our family… 5 bedrooms and each with en-suite bath rooms. It was really two apartment…one a three bedroom and one a two bedroom. The three bedroom had a nice size kitchen, large living room and a whirlpool/spa! The two bedroom was more than adequate with a much smaller kitchen but a very large dining room and nice size living room. The apartment was on what we would call the 3rd floor but there was an elevator we used for luggage. Maybe the only complaint about the building was at night the stairs were rather dark. You could turn on lights but it was still pretty dark. There really isn’t a bad location in Lucca since it is so small but this place was in an excellent section of the city. We paid for parking but you could easily go outside the walls and find free parking and not that much farther away. This is very nitpicking but I think at reception you could spend a bit more time explaining the various items like a/c, tv, washer/dryer/ dishwasher, etc. European appliances are not the same as US. Again, not a big deal and we got along just fine. I still give you a 5 star rating with no reservation.
