About this cabin rental

Wishing Well Lodge is a rustic mountain paradise. Here, you can relax, eat well, and embark on adventures. We’d love to share it with you.

PRIME LOCATION: The lodge sits on 1 acre in Red River’s Upper Valley, a rural residential area outside town. The property provides plenty of space without feeling completely isolated. From the wrap-around porch or hot tub, you’ll have unobstructed views of pine trees, the Milky Way, and majestic mountains, including Wheeler Peak--the highest spot in New Mexico.

Everyone is welcome, but we cater to the following:

SNOW BUNNIES: We are located 5 miles from Red River ski resort, 45 minutes from Angel Fire, and 1 hour from Taos Ski Valley. The lodge caters to your ski gear, including a ski rack, ample snow gear storage, and a glove/boot dryer!

CHILDREN: If traveling with kids at the Wishing Well Lodge, you won’t need a U-Haul to bring along all of their stuff! We provide ample accommodations, gear, and activities for all ages. The large loft is a kid’s retreat with a secret hideout, board games, and an entertainment center (Roku, DVDs, Wii). We have a crib, a highchair for babies and toddlers, and a jogging stroller suitable for evening strolls down peaceful gravel roads.

DOGS: Our home welcomes well-behaved dogs (max of 2) of all shapes and sizes. We provide a large kennel, bedding, food, bowls, leashes, poo bags, and more! The backyard allows ample space for fetch to wear your pup out before retiring for the evening. (Dog fee = $125 per stay, non-refundable)

FOODIES: You can prepare amazing meals inside or outside when not dining out in Red River. The small kitchen is stocked with quality gear, essentials, and more! After starting your day with fresh-ground, French-pressed coffee, you can cook breakfast on an indoor or outdoor griddle.

OFF-ROADERS: Our property has generous pull through gravel parking for all your vehicles (Jeeps, ATVs, OHVs, snowmobiles, hovercraft, etc.) and trailers of all sizes.

More house information:

HOUSE LAYOUT: The living room, kitchen, and loft area are open for lounging and easy mingling. The main level has two bedrooms, one full bathroom. An additional full bathroom is in the laundry/mudroom in a detached garage.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: The house sleeps 8-10 beds with two private bedrooms (1 king and 1 queen bed) on the main floor and a kid-friendly loft with two bunk beds (2 full-size beds and 2 single beds). Also, a bassinet and a portable crib are available for infants and toddlers.

HEATING: The main lodge is heated primarily by a propane stove or corn stove in the living room, heating the living space and loft. The bedrooms have electric baseboard heaters with adjustable thermostats--capped at a maximum of 72 F.

EXTRA STUFF: Picnic gear, blankets, towels, fans, hairdryer, gadget chargers, and more.

!!! IMPORTANT NOTES/REQUIREMENTS!!!

GARBAGE REMOVAL: Due to our lodge's rural, rustic nature, we do not have trash service. Guests are required to remove all garbage & deliver it to dumpsters 2-4 miles away. We provide ample trash sacks.

DISHES BY HAND: Guests must clean and put away all kitchenware & dishes. There is no dishwashing machine. This helps us keep the cleaning fee down.

DOGS: max of 2 allowed with a $125 non-refundable fee per stay paid a few days prior to check-in.

NOT A PARTY HOUSE: The lodge is in a rural, residential area. We want to maintain the area's peacefulness. Thus, guests must:

1) Abide by our max guest limits at ALL times and not have more people on the property than the claimed number of guests.

2) Do Not play loud music outside at any time and do not be louder outdoors than conversation-level after 9 PM.

3) Not use bright outdoor (porch) lighting after 9 PM beyond brief use as needed.

The exterior of our house is MONITORED BY AN OUTDOOR SECURITY CAMERA in part, to ensure these rules are followed. If these rules are violated, guests will be subject to immediate eviction and/or a $500 fine.

*** DEPOSIT INFO ***

We require a $500 hold (pre-authorization) on a credit card as a damage deposit--APPLIED TO THE CARD USED FOR BOOKING PAYMENT. This money is not charged/collected unless damage occurs and released within 1 week of departure.

Positives:Beautiful location on a quiet road. The home was set up nicely with the bunk beds and even the regular guest rooms were huge! Check in was easy and the host was quick to reply. Negatives regardless of previous ratings:**All issues were brought up immediately to the host with no apology or true solution**Both showers were filthy and had mass amounts of mold and mildew growing under the shower doors. Black spots kept coming out from under the seams of the showers and the walls were caked with soap scum. In the listing it shows a telescope in the loft, when I asked the host, she claimed a previous renter broke it but did not update the photos. The listing says where firewood would be located, we checked and only had 3 pieces. When I messaged the host, she started off with letting us know where to buy it even though it was stated firewood is provided. After messaging back asking if there was a way any could be delivered (we paid for something not available) she told us to grab some from another renter across the street. The washer was disgusting. It was full of dog hair, mildew, stale water&coins. It also gave us a code which indicated the washer was not spinning the water out. We had to clean the grill because it was full of grease. The fridge went out and the host indicated that we need to reset the GFCI in the bathroom…that seems unsafe. Our smoke alarm also died the first night. The hot tub was full of mold. Pics provided. She’s now selling the property…hmm.
