Friendly staff, proximity to grand bazaar

The location is unbeatable, just a short walk from everything: We loved the proximity to public transport, local restaurants and most popular SOUK and MONUMENTS. The room was spacious and clean, which was ideal for our family of four. The beds were comfortable after a long day of walking and finally the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming toward our children, they are Very friendly.

Staff was very helpful from the 1st day of checking in, to the last day (of my checkout). Mr. Hakan, it was very nice to meet you and you are great Brother 🫡 Thanks for making my trip easy and amazing !

Should improve the breakfast option !

The staff deserve 10/10, especially Ahmad, and 7/10 to the lady who served breakfast (for her service, not the basic breakfast itself). Their hospitality, care, and friendliness were genuinely good. Ahmad’s service was exceptional: carrying our suitcase to a third-floor room via a steep, spiral staircase on both arrival and departure (on demand), arranging a reliable and reasonably priced taxi to IST, and accompanying us with our luggage to a different street a few hundred meters downhill, where taxis are allowed to stop.

Sorry Ahmad - you would be a great asset to any company that employs you, but I feel obliged to be honest with fellow travelers here. Without your exceptional, attentive service, this hotel would struggle to reach even 4/10. Most of the high ratings appear to be driven almost entirely by Ahmad’s friendliness, not by the hotel’s facilities, comfort, or value. Some reviews say, “you get what you pay for,” often comparing prices to Western Europe. That comparison does not hold in Turkey. For just €20 more per day, my family stayed shortly after in a 5-star, all-inclusive hotel, which clearly exposed how poor the value of Mitra Down Town Hotel actually is. The hotel does not come close to justifying an 8/10 rating. Amenities are basic, comfort is limited, and the overall experience falls far below what the score suggests. I won’t list every issue one by one, but when even closing the room door requires handyman-level effort, that says enough. The photos are highly misleading, creating the illusion of a luxury stay that simply does not exist in reality. This booking was made for a last-minute two-day stop in Istanbul, based largely on highlighted high scores and polished photos on Booking.com. In hindsight, both the ratings and images painted a false picture.
