About this cottage rental

The complex management currently requires longer-term bookings of 28 days or more with exceptions for the festive season. Please enquire.

Located on the rocky outcrop where the historic Steenbras River Tea Room owned by Robert Quarmby until 1946 once stood, the Monkey Rock self-catering cottage continues to enthrall visitors with crashing surf and stunning views.

Ideally suited for one, two, or three couples or families wishing to sit back and relax with their favorite beverage while enjoying each other's company and the sights and sounds of nature at its best without any outside interference.

Unless they are being battered by one of the Cape's violent storms which are an experience in itself you can fall asleep and wake up to the sound of waves gently lapping at the rocks below.

With deep water close inshore the probability of seeing whales is increased.

Set directly on the river and oceanfront, this property has a landscaped garden, tide pools, and barbecue facilities.
The more agile and adventurous can dive or fish for a fresh seafood dinner or hike up the mountain to the famous Crystal pools and waterfall for a refreshing swim.

The uninterrupted panoramic views of False Bay and the surrounding mountain range extend to Hangklip and even Cape Point on a clear day.

Half an hour to Cape Town International Airport Monkey Rock cottage is well-positioned as a weekend escape from Cape Town or Johannesburg where you can experience some of the best land-based whale watching in the world (June to November).

This solar-powered holiday home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, two flat-screen TVs, free wireless internet, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, a covered veranda, and a patio with river and ocean views.

South Africa may be famous for its Big Five, but the marine wildlife is also impressive! Every year whales and dolphins treat visitors to an unforgettable display.
Along with other wild and birdlife Rock Hyrax or Dassie (the closest living relative to the Elephant), Cape Fur Seals, and Clawless Otters are often spotted sunning themselves on the rocks or chasing fish in the river mouth.

Conveniently situated on the 72 km Helderberg Wine route and just 30 minutes from the Stellenbosch Wine region this property provides an ideal base from which to explore numerous Wine estates. Around 30 of which are dotted along the lower slopes of the Helderberg Mountains with picturesque views of the sparkling waters of False Bay.

Other popular activities nearby include Hiking, Scuba diving tours, Fishing charters, Cage diving with sharks, Kayaking, Golfing, Harbour Island shopping and dining, etc.
In addition, all the attractions in Cape Town are only 40 minutes away.

This home is on a cliff overlooking both the Steenbras River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is spectacular! Pictures just can’t do it justice. It is located within the national park, with no pets allowed anywhere inside the locked gates, so birds and animals are unafraid of you and a joy to watch. We were there for a month mid August to mid September and lived every minute. The house is powered by solar, so limited in electrical appliances (ie…no microwave or heaters), but does have a generator so “load-shedding” (electricity is shut down for a few hours daily in all of South Africa when we were there) does not affect it. It is, however, very cold in the house in the winter season with no heat. There is a small wood stove, but the house is very large and spread out, so it doesn’t help much. The owners, Reina and Colin, are wonderful to work with whenever any problems arose. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to stay in this amazing property.
