About this house rental
Summary:
A historic tower in the heart of Vernazza on five levels, with a 360° roof terrace over the village and the sea. It is a vertical home: the only bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedrooms are two and three steep flights up. Ideal for a couple or a solo traveller; up to 4 guests only if the group is happy to sleep on different floors with no separate living room. Fans in every room, no air conditioning. 80 sqm.
The Space:
THE TOWER, FLOOR BY FLOOR
Ground floor: the only bathroom in the house (with shower) and a basic kitchenette with electric hob, microwave and Nespresso machine.
First floor: living area with table and one single sofa bed. If it is used for sleeping, the house no longer has a separate common room.
Second floor (about 30 steps up from the bathroom): double bedroom.
Third floor (about 15 more steps): panoramic studio with two single beds (can be joined as a double) and large windows over the sea.
Terrace: at the very top, via the internal staircase, with a 360° view over Vernazza and the Ligurian Sea.
The stairs, inside and outside, are steep, and you walk through the sleeping areas to reach the bathroom, including at night. Fans in every room, no air conditioning: the tower stays naturally cool thanks to the sea breeze. Wi-Fi and Smart TV.
WHO IT SUITS
Ideal for a couple or a solo traveller, who can use the living area as a lounge. For three or four guests it works only if the group is happy to sleep on different floors, with the bathroom on the ground floor and no separate living room: families with older teenagers or friends used to sharing. Not suitable for guests with reduced mobility, small children or elderly guests.
THE STORY
The tower was bought many years ago by a well-known Italian writer and translator, the man who brought Agatha Christie's novels to Italy, and turned into a creative retreat: it still keeps a literary atmosphere of silence, books and light on the sea. The terrace is the real jewel, perfect for a sunset aperitivo.
Guest Access:
Exclusive private entrance directly on Via Roma, with direct access to Vernazza's harbour. The home rises vertically over five floors connected by steep stairs, inside and outside: about 30 steps from the bathroom to the double bedroom and 15 more to the studio. We recommend travelling light.
The Neighborhood:
In the heart of Vernazza, the most photographed village in the Cinque Terre, with its little harbour, Castello Doria and a piazza that comes alive every evening. The tower faces directly onto Via Roma and the harbour, steps from restaurants, shops and the swimming spots.
Getting Around:
The train station is a few minutes' walk. If driving, there's a public car park above the village (about 1,200 metres from the pedestrian area), with a shuttle down to the start of the pedestrian zone and then a short walk to our office (about 5 minutes). Booking the car park in advance is recommended (roughly €20/day).
Other Things to Note:
Small and medium dogs (non-dangerous breeds) are welcome for a €70 supplement; on a lead in communal areas, not on beds or sofas.
Heating is switched off by Italian law from 1 April to 1 November. We are in a National Park: please switch off lights and appliances when you go out — every small gesture counts.
Complimentary welcome breakfast on your first day, with local extra virgin olive oil, salt, sugar and compostable Nespresso capsules. Professional cleaning and eco-friendly practices.

Vernazza is absolutely charming, though if you come, be prepared for climbing stairs and fitting into tight spaces. The rooftop deck is a wonderful place to sip coffee or wine and admire the view.

The neighborhood was great! So close to train station. Place clears out in the evenings. House has authentic charm. The stairs are in the listing, but keep in mind they are uneven, twisting stairs and some with only a loose rope as a handrail. Our 10-year-old and husband both fell and had some bruises (normally not known as clubsy people)....so just something to be aware of. Check-in time was a limited window, and checkout procedures were a bit overzealous (potential charges if dishes not clean and away, charges if trash not separated, etc). The view from the deck is amazing! Great place to eat and also get away from the crowds. Kind property managers. Kitchen minimal - wouldn't plan to cook much. Thank you for letting us have this authentic experience!

We loved our stay in Vernazza. Everything was as described, and there was a bonus of coffee and pastries for the morning. Added amenities were shampoo/ Conditioner and body soap. The stairs are a lot, especially with luggage, but worth the work and effort. Appreciate that this was known in advance thru the description.
