About this house rental

Benmore Cottage is modern and well equipped. An open plan ground floor creates an ideal open space for relaxing and dining after a day enjoying the outdoors. Two storage heaters provide a consistent warm ambience.

We have comfortable leather seating and provide a large screen TV with DVD/Blue Ray player and an extensive selection of films, in addition to a library of books.

Our kitchen is very well equipped, including a modern washing machine and tumble dryer, and the dining area has wonderful views of Ben More Assynt.

The shower room is located downstairs.

Views from the ground floor extend to Loch Shin, little Loch Shin and beyond to Ben More Assynt.

Upstairs the double and twin bedrooms are fitted with total black-out blinds to ensure you sleep well in the light summer months. We provide use of bed linen, so you don't need to bring those bulky items. Likewise, we provide towels.

We encourage wildlife to the large garden area, and throughout the year we are visited by a vast number of bird species. You will certainly hear the Tawny owls at night. We have up to 5 hedgehogs visiting at night and we have a good stock of food which we encourage you to use. Other visitors include Hares (with young), red deer, bats (midge eaters), and although rarely, Pine Martin.

We provide ample parking, which is reached via our private tree covered driveway.

The village of Lairg is 5 to 10 minutes walk, where shops, restaurants, a fish and chip shop and a bar are all close by, but distant enough so that you will never be disturbed by them.

The area is perfect for walking, fishing (Loch Craggie and Loch Shin, plus numerous rivers), nature watching (including Dalchork bird hide) and mountain biking (nationally recognised trails at Golspie and Balblair just 10 minutes away by car).

We hold a Scottish self satering short term let license, issued January 2024.

Energy is 100% from renewable sources and our EPC rating is D.

From arrival to (unfortunately) departure was in one word great.Beautiful clean house, with all amenities. Also wonderfully quiet, with a magnificent view.made many trips, including Dunrobin castle, and to Ullapool, where we arrived too late to make a trip with a rib, (fast speedboat) to spot dolphins and whales.Drove further to the very tip of the UK.in short, this week was perfect,Thank you Judith.

The best views over Lairg and down to Loch Shin, very quiet. Great for bird watching :) We enjoyed our stay tremendously and Judith was always available for questions and concerns. Didn't get to see the hedgehogs - but fed them nonetheless. We would love to return anytime!

Lairg is quiet hamlet off the beaten path but accessible to the roads needed for journeys into the beautiful Scottish Highlands. The home was equally quiet and a lovely retreat. We cooked every night but one and enjoyed the restful spaces. Since I’m quite tall, a larger shower would’ve been great but that’s a small quibble. We loved it. We’d come again.

    What a wonderful place!
    What a wonderful place!
The cozy cottage with the magnificent view of Little Loch Shin not only really has everything a holidaymaker's heart desires, including wonderful tour suggestions and friendly animal visitors in the garden. In addition, the nice town of Lairg with its supermarket and restaurant is the ideal starting point to explore the Highlands in all directions. It doesn't matter which direction you choose, whether on foot, by car or by train, and whether you want to travel for two hours or a whole day, it will definitely be beautiful. Our highlights were the waterfalls at Lairg and Golspie, driving through the Highlands to the lighthouse at Stoer, visiting Duncansby Head and driving to Loch Shin and on to the west coast. But e.g. Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle can also be reached in two hours. And with Dunrobin and Carbisdale Castle two magnificent castles are just around the corner. We enjoyed every day! And the spectacular sunset over the lake was a daily experience from the sofa or kitchen table. The weather also played along. And on the hottest day ever on the island, we enjoyed the sun in the north at a pleasant 23°. Benmore Cottage was the cornerstone of a dream holiday! We recommend the house unreservedly! Thanks!
