Angelo was very welcoming, we only stayed one night, she got us a cab for an early flight. The restaurant she recommended was wonderful and opened earlier so we could have an early dinner. We were very pleased with our stay.

The neighborhood was edgier than we expected.

Nice, modest-sized modern room about 3-4 miles to the airport, (easy 3-4 block walk to Station Centrale.)

I’ve been in the travel business for 40 years and never had an arrival to an accommodation like this. It was VERY disconcerting to be located in a seedy urban part of the city with lots of trash stacked on the road. (Is it trash day and the workers are on strike or is a homeless person’s nest?) Then, a young and pretty host unlocks a small and narrow door (that barely allows you and your backpack to pass through) that’s part of an huge ancient city door, the first (of 4) bolted doors to enter a courtyard of an urban housing complex - locked 24/7. You have to coordinate an arrival time so someone can meet you to unbolt the door and receive you and your luggage as you pass it in. Honestly, they should just craft a fun mythical description in their hotel description to play up the unique storied arrival so you expect and look forward to the experience of “going through the wardrobe” (as in Narnia) instead of asking yourself, “What in the world have I gotten us into and will we be safe?” Then - most unfortunately, the ancient elevator was broken and we had to drag heavy 50 pound suitcases up more than 60 spiraling steps to the third floor. To add insult to injury, we both tripped on their bizarre step up just inside their locked office entrance on the second floor and similar entrance to go through the locked door to the hallway of our floor, and fortunately didn’t smack our heads on the opposite cornered wall! Once inside the room, it was similar to a typical 4* American hotel room and everything was lovely and normal inside, which no longer compensated for how rattled we felt. Also, this BnB asks you to go a block up the street for breakfast to a cafe for a cup of coffee and a pastry, also quite irregular, but at least they put proper expectations in their details.
