Barebones but well located and cheap.

Very chill little cabin by the beach.

Very barebones, the door doesn’t close well so I didn’t feel very safe. The fan works relatively well but it’s very rusty and dusty, a little gross. There’s only one plug socket in the entire bungalow, and no lamp just the one big headlight.

Peaceful accommodation in a great location

Had a really nice time staying here, and extended by 3 days. The staff were very accommodating, especially Latt. All of our needs were taken care of, including bike rental and snorkel if needed. Definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a peaceful Oceanside stay that’s still in very close proximity to Sairee

Two single beds which we pushed together, the floor was quite sandy and dusty but was manageable, WiFi was very poor in the room, non-existent at times. It worked a lot better at the beach. However, none of these took away from our stay

Great location, and perfect place to start day off with a morning swim and away from busier/louder bars. Easy to rent scooters and for arranging taxis.

May be better seating for on terrace/porch to relax for 2 but great place otherwise

Manager is vile, rude, and frankly a horrible person

Manager from get go was unwelcoming and difficult. First room was 2 single beds (room 9) (not what we booked but we went with it), but then the manager tried to charge us to change to a room with a double bed which was our booking anyway and despite proof of the booking she still wanted extra payment so we made do with the twin beds. This was until we discovered ants everywhere with an ant nest in both mattresses (plus holes in bedding (signs of bed bugs)), so asked to change room but they said if it was cleaned it would be ok so sprayed unholy amounts of bug spray (my partner has asthma so this didn’t help). Managed to get changed rooms to the AC room (B1, next to the bikes) which they tried to charge us 200bht extra for a night, we declined wanting to pay saying we only wanted a fan so they took the AC controller away, which is fair enough but the manager seemed childish and petty as we wouldn’t pay. In the morning we woke up to the smell of smoke from the electrics with thick smoke coming out so dealt with it quickly as they are wooden huts. Asked to change room again but the manager explained we would have to pay 100bht per night for sea view. Explained all I wanted was a clean room and not to go up in flames during the night to which she explained that I am in Thailand and this is the issue everywhere and if I didn’t like it I should just leave, this was not an option due to cancellation costs and no chance of a refund. We did mange to change room free of charge after inspecting it prior (room 14) and stayed there the remaining 3 nights where we killed 8 cockroaches during that time. Frankly by this stage we knew we would get nothing out of, put simply, a vile, rude, uninterested and unsympathetic manager who does not care about anyone that stays there only taking as much money as possible.

Lovely staff and fantastic position on Sairee beach. Away from the noisy parties but just a stroll if you want to go get involved.

Location is amazing’

Location is amazing, on the best part of Sairee beach for sunbathing (nicest bit of beach) Quiet, only woken up by chickens which is fine! 5 min walk from the party area but you’re not kept awake from the music The staff are amazing, just ask them for anything you need (food, laundry, bike, taxi etc) and they will sort it for you.

Very hot bungalow as we had no air con, some bungalows do have aircon. Basic fitting but everything you need

Location outstanding

Location, location, location. Nothing beats being right in front of the sea and being able to watch the sea from your bedroom. Staff were friendly and very keen to help.

You get what you pay for, our biggest issue was no safe. Highly recommend you book with aircon as well.

This was my first trip to Koh Tao and I wasn't sure what to expect. But staying at Mama O'Chai's Bungalows was an AWESOME choice! PERFECT location on a long, wide sandy beach with GORGEOUS aqua blue water. You could even snorkel right off the beach by swimming out to the nearby coral. My bungalow faced the beach/sea and the breeze was fantastic. SUPER convenient and very peaceful and quiet. My bungalow was pretty basic but it came with everything I needed. The 2 fans in the room were plenty cool enough at night. The staff were AWESOME as well. Very friendly and welcoming. Loved the "Family Owned/Operated" vibe too. Felt like you were visiting old friends. I really enjoyed my stay there and if anything, it was way too short. There is a nearby "village" within walking distance, plus a 7-11 and Dairy Queen, and tons of amazing restaurants with all different kinds of foods. Plus getting to the pier was super easy and fast. Only took about 5-7 minutes on my bike. VERY easy to explore the island on the bike and got to experience tons of amazing beaches. Saw oodles of coral, sharks, fish and turtles too while snorkeling on several beaches. I would TOTALLY recommend this place to anyone and would love to go back there myself one day.

Direct beach access Beach was right in front of our bungalow

Our booking document listed a fridge as being in our booked room. But when we arrived there was no fridge. When I asked one of the staff about this, nothing happened. After half an hour, I went to the office. They stuck to a line that a fridge is only available if a higher tariff is paid. It took a fair bit longer than it should have to get the point across that the written deal was on my booking confirmation pages. Luckily I had it painted out. And also Luckily a kind man nearby helped me without language interpretation. CLEANLINESS was also LACKING. A quick sweep out before our arrival would have been a welcoming gesture. We had to sweep it as soon as we could. The story abort Thai people being very welcoming is wearing a bit thin

Was on a NICE beach, but...

NO AC. This is probably fine Nov-March, but during summer? No... just... NO. Property tried to offer me AC room after one night but it was just too late at that point because... Location was literally as far as possible from main town/ferry pier. Only stay here if you REALLY value privacy, and even then, you should just go with Nangyuan 😜

Very good location, however hut itself wasn't great

- The property is located on the beach, and our bungalow had a sea view - The balcony area is a nice, big space to sit and chill on - The floor can get sandy because it is on the beach, so they provide a broom which was a nice addition - They do provide a lift to the pier for a good price if you ask

- Bed and pillows were not comfortable - The hut was not clean (an empty toilet roll was left and started to get mouldy, there was cobwebs etc) - The toilet leaked out of the top every time it was flushed - There was very little storage space to put any of your clothes or bags, so we had to live out of our bags on the floor - They seem to burn their litter behind the beach huts which can smell quite badly - The windows do not shut properly, so noise (and fire smoke) can get in and out easily

nice place but there was a festival on the beach

Location is very cool on the beach and close to bars, restaurants, 7eleven. The bungalows are big enough and also clean, there is no AC tho. Also wifi was good.

During my stay there was a festival just on the beach so I didn't experience that peace that everyone is talking about. Music was very loud until 2am and the bungalow was literally shacking. Fortunately I'm young and I can still sleep with a lot of noise, but I guess this would had been a problem for a family. I'd have expected someone of the staff told me this once booked by email, so I could have choose if confirm or not my reservation, this would have been more correct. Always check if there is any events/festival before booking.

great location right on the beach. Best area for swimming and just behind the hustle and bustle of the beach bars so easy to reach everything on food but still quiet. rooms have a kettle and some crockery and cutlery which is a nice touch

Pleasant

Amazing location, great vibe and cool little community of travelers stay there long-term. Perfect for frequent dips in the sea and relaxing. Internet was decent for the island.

Sadly, after a couple weeks in an old, wooden bungalow I developed a bad illness that was mostly likely an allergy to mold. I've never been sensitive to anything like this and prefer rustic non-air conditioned spots so it was a huge shame and I had to depart early. Only other negative is that it can be loud at night until about 4am with music from bars down the beach.

Exceptional

Mama O'Chai was our perfect location. We had two beachfront huts that were literally a stones throw from the water. They were clean, had a fridge and a kettle. The decor was really homely, cosy blankets etc. The resort is at the quiet end of Sairee beach but literally five minutes walk to the centre for shops, bars etc. We liked this place so much we returned to spend more days here!

Incredible value, uniquely close to the sea

This was one of the few places genuinely right on the beach. Wonderful location. You can get a scooter from here too, so you can avoid the bother of possible scams from other companies. The rooms is adequate, really good value for what you get. I would stay here again for sure
