My second stay to Umma Bali in two years. Love it here. Hired a scooter and got around the district. Great place

Clean and tidy, private Lumbungs, and a nice dining area by the pool where you can meet people. Really nice owners. View is of mountains in the background with rice fields in the foreground. Rural simplicity, peaceful and homely.

Pleasant stay

Made was great to communicate with and speaks good English. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. This is a good place to stay to experience what it is like to stay in a village atmosphere. Kids were playing with their kites and you are amongst a rice field. Breakfast was fine. Fruit and eggs on toast.

There are no restaurants in walking distance so you do need transport. We did have a motorbike.

Beautiful peaceful property

Very relaxing property. There are 4 bungalows set in peaceful rice fields. My bungalow was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast next to the pool was good. Staff was nice and helpful. I stayed here for 2 nights to relax after some adventures in Java and was really pleased with my choice to stay here.

Pool was a bit small. My first day there was a family with young kids in the pool and it felt a bit tight to share between us all. However my next day I had the pool to myself so it was fine.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff who can’t do enough to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms are absolutely incredible, so much love and care and thought has gone into making these huts unique with modern amenities. Made and his wife, are very proud of their retreat.

This was a lovely place to stay and Made was a great host. The food was yum and any trips you wanted could be booked easily.

The cost of day activities were significantly cheaper from Permuteran (only 10min down the road), so if you plan on activities, bring your own transport.

Very nice place to stay, amazing host, highly recommended

Very friendly and agreeable host. Made did everything to make our stay comfortable. He booked snorkeling trip for us even it was late evening. I could borrow his motorbike to get some diner in town. I highly recommend this beautiful place. We saw lots of animals in the park (black and grey monkeys, wild boars, and deers), amazing beautiful coral reefs to visit by snorkeling at menjangan island.

The equipment provided by the snorkeling tour was not fitting our mensuration (fins size). The informations regarding how to do treks in the national park are not very clear. The West Bali National park is actually the most dirty place I have seen there, more plastic than sand on the beach. Most probably trashes come from Java island, such a pity for a natural reserve.

Stunning retreat

Absolutely stunning slice of paradise that is very private despite the stretching views of the mountains/fields. The pictures on the website are true to life, and there are no sneaky camera angles or nasty surprises like so many other places I’ve been to have! My room and the whole facility was ridiculously clean, and the highlight of the whole experience is the hosts themselves. I have visited Bali many times and their hospitality really stands out. Nothing is too much trouble, and they were more than happy to accomodate my dietary restrictions and have a hot meal ready and waiting for my 8pm arrival. As a woman traveling alone, they made me feel incredibly safe my entire stay.

By the nature of this part of Bali generally, I recommend that no matter where you choose to stay, if you’re a light sleeper; pack some ear plugs! The morning combination of roosters and the local mosques certainly had me greeting the morning earlier than I would normally. On the upside, the view of the micro-bats, birds and misty hills was absolutely breathtaking at that time of the morning!

The place to stay in Bali

Definitely the best accommodation during our trip to Bali. Made and his family welcomed us warmly and throughout our stay they were very attentive and kind. The rooms and the facilities are spotless and you can feel the the whole place was made with quality and attention to details. In this hidden location a full service is proposed with activities, restaurant, SPA treatments, driver, etc. All you need to do is to go there and enjoy your time!

We stayed here for 2 nights during our trip in Bali. This retreat, which is located in a small rice field, has a nice view on the nearby mountains. It is owned and managed by the host Made & his family. They are very kind, helpful and hospitable people. It’s possible to book several activities in the surrounding area from the retreat. We booked a snorkeling tour and it was totally worth it. The host also helped us book a dinner at a nearby beach. I highly recommend this stay if you are looking for a peaceful place to reside in North-Wast Bali.

Well recommended gem in Menjangan region!

The view is STUNNING! But, the best thing about this place is the owner, Made. We were the only guests when we were there, something that could also be a bit awkward. But he made us feel really comfortable. He is kind, funny, hospitable and speaks English very well. Comfortable beds and the food was excellent as well! Had a great stay!

Made and his wife created a home from home. A place you don't want to leave. Lovely designed bungalows with comfy bed and AC, a great pool, great breakfast and that all amidst rice fields and in a small village close to Pemuteran. White Sand Beach and Pemuteran Beach are not far away but you can also just enjoy a walk along the rice fields and observe the life in the village. Made and his wife are always there to help you and happy to talk about their Balinese life and traditions. I'll come back for sure.

This place is amazing. It only has 4 rooms and is locally run by Made and his wife. Not only is it cute as a perfect picture it is full of love and positive energy. Everything is perfect. Made and his wife have an eye for detail everything is thought of. It is exceptionally clean. The linen and towels smell amazing and are so clean and fresh. The gardens are amazing and well looked after. Made is so helpful, friendly, informative and speaks very good english. Made and his wife take pride in this property and you can feel how well loved it is. The homeade meals here are the best meals we have had. We loved the peacefulness and enjoyed watching the rice farms attend to their land. The swimming pool is a treat to cool off in. The whole property is well looked after and was a pleasure to stay there. Don't hesitate to stay here you will love it!!! I wish we stayed longer.

A hidden gem in northern Bali

Absolutely idyllic! We were going to stay for 2 nights, we extended for 5 nights in total. The rice fields, the mountains, the stars at night… The beds are super comfortable. The wooden bungalows couldn’t be cozier. The outdoor bathroom is fantastic. The swimming pool right there. Great homemade food! Everything is spotless, the cleanest accommodation I’ve stayed at and seen in Indonesia. For the record, this is my 5th time in this wonderful country. Made, the owner, and his wife, the nicest people you can imagine. Ketut, the driver who they provided us with is such kind person. They all are always willing to make your stay easy and comfortable. We will definitely come back for an even longer stay!

I enjoyed exchanging with Made about Bali, his love for the island and hospitality, and the story of how Umma Bali came to be. Made's wife's Gado Gado was absolutely delicious! Definitely recommend! The swimming pool in the rice fields, though not big, was perfect to relax by and refresh after a long day of diving. And the room was just dreamy. :-)

Points of improvement could be a hotter shower and a mini fridge. But to be honest, it was so warm outside, I didn't really care for a hot shower and drinking the provided bottled mineral water at room temperature (not warm) was better for body regulation.

Amazing stay, would come back in a heartbeat.

Made the host and his family were by far the best part about menjangan retreat, Made was so attentive and helpful and his wife’s cooking was so good! The retreat was beautiful and so peaceful, we would recommend visiting here for a few days if not longer as the locals were so friendly and inviting also. Most people will visit the more tourist parts of Bali but people are crazy not to travel around more and see beautiful places like this retreat. On arrival they had prepared a coconut for us!
