The Istana

It‘s very unique and peaceful. The ocean, the stars, the health aspects. I slept very well too. The staff was very helpful at all times!

The people in reception is wonderful

The amazing view of the cliffs and the sea from the hotel. The bonfire at sunset. The suite room was fantastic as well.

Not ideal for those looking for a more authentic Indonesian experience and/or for a more rounded type of service - for example no alcohol and only vegetarian/vegan options served on premises.

The property is beautiful! The food is excellent! The setting is stunning!

We were in room #3 and there was no easy way to get to our room--we had to walk through the yoga studio which was almost always in use with a yoga class or a silent retreat. Or go through a conference room that was sometimes in use. Then, if both routes were blocked, we had to climb through a rock garden to the parking lot and enter the resort through the main enterance...it was terrible! The room is called a garden room and we had to keep the main curtains shut because they looked out over the rock garden, yoga studio and parking lot--everyone could look right into our room through these huge floor to ceiling windows. The garden wrapped around the room and anyone could walk in at any time. At the gorgeous pool, there are only four lounge chairs and one large day bed for all the guests...they are the only part of the pool and grass area that are covered, so if you do not get out there early and make your spot you have no where to sit except the prickly grass...in the sun...it was terrible. In the end, we just felt unwelcome...I will not return.
