Cozy Family Home with Pool near the Beach

We had a lovely stay and Debbie and Simon were genuinely warm, friendly and incredibly hospitable who couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. They respected our privacy throughout our stay, despite living in the apartment above, but were always available if we needed anything. They really went above and beyond by inviting us to a fantastic BBQ and Debbie even cooked us a delicious homemade moussaka, which was such a thoughtful touch. Fresh towels (both for showering and outdoor use) were provided and Simon cleaned the pool every day, keeping it in excellent condition. The location was very good, with several lovely beaches nearby, and we always felt safe and secure. An easy drive north to Rhodes Town and South to Lindos.

We do feel the accommodation and garden area would benefit from some updating, as a few relatively small improvements could make a significant difference to guests’ experience. Some of the kitchen drawers and cupboard doors were broken, the fly screen on the front door wasn’t securely attached, and the kitchen worktops not ideal for keeping clean due to water having caused the joints to expand. The mattresses on the single beds were not particularly comfortable, and the shower head inside could not be secured to its wall bracket. The garden has a traditional Greek feel, which we appreciated, but it could perhaps be modernised a little to better meet guests’ expectations. The artificial grass, fence screening and some of the outdoor furniture were showing their age with some of the black-painted metal chairs leaving black marks on clothing and skin when they became hot in the sun. The outdoor shower was made with a damaged garden hose fitting which really made it unusable but such a simple fix to improve.

If you look for a relaxing family holiday with a smooth home-to-home transition, this place is perfect - it's away from the noise and crowds of big touristic places but within an easy access to anything you may want to see. The apartment is cozy and spacious, it's got everything you need for your stay. The hosts are fantastic - it feels like you're visiting family or good friends! Such a lovely family - always there to help and take care of guests!! It's about 30 min drive from the airport, 7-8 min walk from the closest beach and a few nice places to eat out. If you're looking to cook yourself much or travel quite a bit around the island (plenty to see and do at Rhodes!), it's better to rent a car (there's a gated parking at the house) - Afantou is well positioned to see most of places of interest. Most of beaches at Rhodes are a mixture of sand and pebbles - for sensitive feet aqua shoes are recommended. The sea is blue and crystal clear - an absolute delight to swim in!
