A little about location:
This property is peacefully situated just beneath the peaks of the Appenine mountain range; 800M from the village of Chiozza with its basic shop, bar and restaurant; approximately 1 hr 15 minutes north of Lucca, and a 15 minute drive to the market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana with it famous Thursday morning market, shops, bars, restaurants and train station…..

The local village has a bar/basic food shop and a popular restaurant and it is possible to walk cross country for 3km to a further restaurant, located in Castiglione, a beautiful fully walled mediaeval village which is known for its intact protecting walls, fantastic views, and summer festas.

The property is located only a 15/20 minute drive to the famous mountain peak top village of San Pellegrino with its mummified saints and incredible views.

Whilst a walkers paradise and set in the depths of the countryside, there is not a feeling of isolation at this farmhouse and the house is only a 10 minute drive or so from what is often described as the best restaurant in the area, at Pieve Fosciana, which also boasts, shops, banks, bars, restaurants, and the most gorgeous delicatessen with take way home made traditional Italian food.

We loved our stay at the villa. There was plenty of room and the kids loved the pool. The hosts were helpful. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and the cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence are outstanding. The nearer towns of Barga and Castelnuovo are also very attractive. The area has recently been a center of attention on BBC with Amanda Holden, Rob Rinder and Clive Myrie. However, if you don't like heights and hairpin bends up a mountainside, this might not be the villa for you.

Elcriso is wonderful and we didn’t want to leave. We were a group of friends who stayed for one month. The view from the terrace is incredible, the pool delightful and the house quite comfortable. Angelina provided meals on a number of occasions - her lasagne is the best! Angelina and the Villa rental company were very helpful throughout the month.

Situated up the mountain close to a small town Chiozza, the place is amazing for a perfect Tuscan holiday. Well equiped and spacious even for a large family. High points for the swimming pool.

Perfect for two families
Perfect for two families
We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed Angelas generous help. The house is ideal for two families and could easily accomodate nine people. The location is very beautiful with nice scenic views and tugged away from other tourists. 15 minutes drive up and down the moutain and you are in Castelnuovo with its grocery shops etc. We arrived very late in the evening and in the dark you have to drive carefully otherwise you might miss the right way downhill. Thanks to Angela for your hospitality and your really great meals. We enjoyed everything a lot!

A welcoming home

The pictures dont really do it justice. Not even google mapping the site, the house is well built, pretty, Italian rustique I would call it. Each room was very spacious, and with 7 people in our party, you wouldnt know it. Large kitchen with all the standard conveniences, a lovely old sitting room with a TV and sky, a large swimming pool and lounging area, and a veranda to enjoy a meal with the sunset. Has some large fields attached which includes an orchard of apple and pear trees (the apples are divine btw) and continue walking upto the small gap in the bushes and you get a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Also saw a few deer while we were there. Angela, the host, is a lovely lady who offers advice on where to go, and gave us a bowl of fruit and veg which was very generous. Ive heard on previous reviews that she offers to cook, but we didnt want to hassle her. Overall its a lovely little place slightly out of the village of Chiozza, down a narrow road, and quite easy to miss if not careful. I would recommend staying here.

Fantastic
Fantastic
We had a wonderful two week stay here in August. Setting is stunning - gorgeous mountain views from all the bedrooms. The house was very spacious and immaculately clean as was the pool. Angela was a great host and we really enjoyed the meal she prepared for us. Although the area is rather hilly, we enjoyed the walk into Chiozza for some low key lovely meals too. One highlight was the walk to Castiglione as you turn right out of the house and walk down following the forest path. We had a lovely lunch in Castiglione and walked back. Our 8 year old and the two grannies in their 70s managed this walk well. Overall, a lovely stay and experience and although we like to mix up our holidays, I am seriously considering coming back next year... Thank you to everyone for making our stay great.

Tuscan hospitality at its best!
Tuscan hospitality at its best!
We spent 10 idyllic days in Elcriso at the end of August. The property is in excellent condition, very well equipped - the bedrooms are big, beds are large and comfortable. It is tucked away and very easy to reach by car, being about 20 min drive from Castelnuevo and 5 min drive to S.Pellegrino in Alpe (altitude 1652m and departure point to many wonderful walks on the mountain ridge - not to be missed). The views of the valley from the terrace or from any bedroom are stunning and because the property is located on the mountain side, it is cool at night and very pleasant. There is no one around, it is very quiet. The pool was kept superbly clean by Angela - with a minimum of chlorine but lots of attention! This is a rare find and for the 1st time we have found a place where we would happily return in the near future. The moment we arrived, time slowed down and we all managed to relax with a day or 2 (a real achievement with teenagers!). There is lots to explore around, places to walk and visit but importantly for us it is quiet and far away from tourist tracks. Angela is a superb host and looked so well after us, without ever intruding. We asked her to cook for us on the last night and she prepared a superb 4-course meal, organized with taste and attention to details... this was by far the best meal we had during our stay... a 'tour-de-force' considering we ate extremely well every day. One comment: The place is way nicer than the pictures suggest on the website and we would recommend without reservation this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing family holiday.
