About this cabin rental
The river has a way of calling us to it, of calling us back to ourselves and bringing us together. No matter where we're from, the river has a way of bringing us home again. The familiar sound of water cascading, the warmth of a campfire, and the way the grass feels on our skin brings back memories that never quite leave us.
I give my guests space but am available when needed.

Certain memories bring us comfort and peace, others take us back to our childhood, some memories make us smile and laugh so that we forget what it was that was troubling us. The river, like a favorite memory, has the ability to transport us.
The River House is a historic homestead from the late 1800s with all the charm and coziness of home. This welcoming vacation getaway is the perfect place for families and friends to gather. The wrap around covered porch overlooks the river and is a much-loved spot for morning coffee and bird watching. Wake up to the sight of the sun coming up over the river, all of the bedrooms have excellent water views. The kitchen offers plenty of room for gathering around the table to share meals together or play board games. Tell campfire stories or roast marshmallows around the riverside fire pit. The large, grassy area by the river is a perfect place for kids to play, and guests can fish right from the bank.
The River House is full of character and good memories. It has sat beside these ancient waters for more than a century and is still here today waiting to welcome each of us home to the river.

As always, the river didn't disappoint...quiet relaxation! We last stayed at the River House in 2020 and couldn't wait to get back. It had most everything we needed and some things we didn't know we did! The location is near perfection!
The first night and second day were a little rough...there was no water pressure and turns out the well needed replacing! Bill was very gracious and paid for our departing breakfast at the Mercantile to make up for the inconvenience. We really appreciated that gesture.
A few things you'll want to be aware of for your next guests...there is still a mouse (or mice) running around the house. He/she made several surprise appearances while we were there! Chris said he'd get the exterminator out with traps but not sure if that happened. The washer is malfunctioning (stopped with 18 minutes left on the rinse and said there was a low pressure problem with the cold water). Downstairs bedroom shower had no hot water or water pressure (even after the well was replaced). Finally, one of my most favorite things about the house is the porch. The last visit (2020) I had morning coffee there, rocked, listened to nature and it was good for my soul. This trip, we quickly discovered multiple wasps nests! Chris removed a table with one, but there are multiple ones in the porch roof! We couldn't really sit outside on the porch this trip because they were relentless in their pursuit of us! I was grateful they were still "sleeping" so I could have my coffee out there. A good spray all across the top should get rid of them. Also check the rocking chairs as they were searching for more places to nest.
While it wasn't perfect (what is?) it is still the river and we love it!
Suggestions...natural steps/man made steps down the first embankment. Grade or add steps down by the river for easier take out after tubing (a floating deck would be a bonus also).

NO cell service and no internet. The house is on the corner of a busy road and a neighborhood. Pictures make is appear as if it is on a large piece of property. It’s not. Parking is just off the busy road. The mattress and pillows need updated The master bath showier is tiny Lighting need updated. Furniture is not comfortable. We did love the large porch.
