外観は、古そうに見えるけど、中に入ると清潔感があって良かったです

The onsens here are obviously the highlight and they definitely exceeded our expectations. A few onsen details weren’t clear from the hotel website but were pleasant surprises: there are multiple separate outdoor bath areas, and while these do rotate between genders day to day, each gender always has access to at least 1 outdoor space and 1 indoor space. There are also private onsen rooms that can be reserved so that a couple or family can use them, which is nice since otherwise the main onsens are gender separated. The outdoor onsens with view of the snow covered valley are just magic. Outstanding breakfast, which was different the two mornings we were there. Room was quite large and the level of room interior and hotel facilities is high overall. Excellent value when rooms are discounted in winter months to 20,000Y per night (taxes incl) for two people.

The hotel is isolated which is part of the charm, but it is a 20min drive to the nearest town and almost nothing there is open after 8pm (this was in the winter, maybe different in the summer). So dinner options beyond the hotel’s set menu (quite pricey at over 10,000Y per head) are very limited. At least there are lots of vending machines on site at the hotel for drinks and snacks.
