Villa Grazie Mille - Charming Lake Como Escape

You will hardly find a better place for a peaceful and relaxing stay around Lake Como. The lake views, beautiful garden, and villa itself are truly exceptional — especially because the house is far away from the busy, touristy towns along the shore. The villa is a charming boutique homestay located in the mountains, in the small and picturesque village of Regoledo. It takes about 30 minutes to walk down to the lake, through beautiful, rustic landscapes. Halfway down, in Gittana, you can discover an exceptional little home restaurant — a perfect stop along the way. By car, it takes just about 10 minutes to reach Varenna, in my opinion the most scenic of the towns around Lake Como. The host, Micaela, is wonderful. She genuinely loves helping her guests and treats everyone with great personal attention. She even took us one morning for breakfast high up in the mountains, where we could enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The house is spacious, comfortable, and full of charm. Breakfast is generous and delicious, with excellent Italian espresso — exactly what you want to start the day.

The good about Villa Grazie Mille is that with the Lake View Suite you have a really nicely sized balcony and a fabulous view looking out towards Lake Como. The grounds and garden area of the villa are also lovely.

Our stay had many negatives: 1) There is NOT an en suite bathroom, it's a private bathroom but outside the room on the same floor 2) The bed and especially the pillows were very uncomfortable 3) There was a TV in the room but it didn't really work well, if at all 4) There is no AC, and the one small floor fan never made the room comforatble for sleeping, especially at night 5) upstairs bathroom is very tiny and sink was leaking 6) Breakfasts were almost always some combination of mozzerella and tomatoes - one day of our 3 there were some scrambled eggs with a bit of cheese. It was all about presentation, but no substance 7) Without a car you have few options for getting down from the hills into Varenna. Taxi is very difficult to find, Michela will drive you for €10 each way in her tiny car and apparently there is a free shuttle, but we were not able to figure it out how to use it with this location being way on the top of the hill, walking is not possible. And you are out of luck if you can't manage to communicate your need for a ride back from Varenna in the evening, as happened to us. It was just dumb luck we ran into the other couple staying at the Villa and they were very nice to give us a ride back with them.
