The stay was excellent, the room *** impeccably clean, ergonomic and spacious enough, happy hour for guests stocked well and the service invariably polite.
The only dark spot was taxi upon picking uo luggage after checkout.
Hotel uses taxi app which does not allow choosing taxi company. I wnded up with driver who took longer than usual route and hence paid 30% more than the trip costs if I get the taxi myself. I know Kyoto well and am not an idiot - I feel bad that tourists will be fooled by the same driver.
I would recommend hitel to use more reliable providers of taxi services, especially when the cost of arrabgibg ine (extra 300 yen) is passed on to guests. MK Taxi or Yasaka Taxi would never allow poor service I have received fron that taxi driver. Still have the receipt just in case.

This is a 3 star hotel. I don’t know why it’s given 5 on Agoda or Booking. It’s basic, small room, limited sound proofing, plastic tiles in shower. I stayed in other 4 & 5 star places across Japan and this hotel is nowhere near these standards.
Staff were not pleasant when I checked in being somewhat sick. They just kept tapping a calculator for additional money they wanted to check in early - no sorry to hear that etc . Someone on staff also had terrible body odour.
There was an odd musty smell in room and I figured out it was from the pillow which was very off putting.
The location (not on the main road) is nice but I’d find an alternative place to stay.
I will say that the woman on front desk this morning was very nice.
Look elsewhere.
