The Secret Garden Guesthouse

Nice hotel in quiet setting in the middle of town. Near the beach as well as shops. Very helpful staff.

As it was winter it was quite cold. The bathroom could do with a small heater.

It was one of the nicest places we ever stayed at! Inge and Naomi and the rest of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The accommodation was clean, bright, and very spacious. We loved the decor.The outside space was pleasant, and the secret garden was a delight. The breakfast had choice for everyone and was very well presented. Highly recommended!

The guesthouse could not be more central. It is a guesthouse, rather than a hotel, so doesn't advertise in-room TV or air-conditioning. However, with excellent free Wifi, you probably won't need any TV and the local climate doesn't make air-con a must have. The rooms are a reasonable size, if a little dark without the main light on, and have more than enough storage and additional seating space. Not the height of luxury, but good, comfortable and enjoyable. In room supplies of tea and coffee are also provided. The bathroom was a very good size, with a first rate shower. all things considered, very good value for money. Extra facilities include a (chargeable) laundry, run by the staff, a communal satellite TV lounge, with books in English and German available and an honesty bar. Breakfast was outstanding with a wide range of breads, cold items and preserves on offer and even Marmite for the Anglophiles! Be aware though that - consistent with being a guesthouse, not a hotel - breakfast finishes at 9am: pretty early for holidaymaking. Hot dishes are available, though those are limited to eggs, cooked to choice, plus a rasher of bacon. Tea and coffeee was made freshly for each table and were first rate.

Room was notably humid at times with no means of controlling humidity or air-conditioning. Given Swakopmund's general climate, likely only a problem in the sumer peak.

The place is generally clean and well maintained. Nice green gardens and well cleaned rooms.

The manager is unpolite leaning towards racist. She was always uncomfortable when I was around but more welcoming to 'white guests'. There is also generally a lack of privacy with staff peering into guests movements and activities. Overall, the place is okay but the people (staff) are unwelcoming and racist in some instances.
