Guest House Verbena

This place is a unique gem hidden in the woods. Absolute quietness (if you ignore the river), signing birds, friendly dog Berta welcoming you every time you come back, traditional Bulgarian architecture. And inside… cosy and comfortable rooms, super clean and welcoming. Every morning tasty, homemade breakfast, served with smile of the owners. In the evening rich, full and tasty dinner, with a glass of wine, rakija or liquid amber - a natural juice made out of fig leaves. It’s hard to beat this place. Come and check yourself 🍀

We enjoyed absolutely everything that the guest house offers. The rooms are extremely cozy and clean. When we entered in our room we felt like we are going home- the interior is perfect, with a lot of wood, a really nice library, good lighting and amazing view of the forest across the house. The location is very quiet and you can fully rest. The owners are very friendly and kind people, who made sure we had everything we need for a calm stay in the woods. They prepared for us, and for the rest of the guests vere tasty meals for breakfast and dinner. Their cats and dog make you feel at home. Hands down, this is the best place we have stayed so far. Surely, we will return someday and cuddle with Bertha (their dog) again.

There isn't anything that I can think of.

The place is ran by a lovely couple, Penka and Georgi, who are kind and helpful with great recommendations for the area. They make breakfast and dinner for all the guests every day so you get to try lots of typical regional meals - all of it is really fresh and tasty and we enjoyed having a bit of surprise and variety. Also, there is home-made wine - great to try and very enjoyable to drink. The room was very homely, and spotlessly clean. It was a pleasure to arrive to. The bed did not look robust (I’m sharing it with a very large man!) but it was blissfully comfortable and supportive - so if you see thin frames and mattress in pictures and think it might not be comfortable, know you will be pleasantly surprised - no rattles and worked for 2 different sized people sharing. The shower had great pressure. The owners have a very friendly dog who came on walks around the local areas with me when my partner was taking time out - a great bonus four-footed hiking companion who helped me spot animals and interesting things to look at. You can access trails/track roads on foot from the guesthouse, so you can venture into the woods without a drive or major planning. For arriving, the road up to the guesthouse is bumpy, so it’s good to drive and be able to take it at a speed you’re comfortable with, or the guesthouse owners can meet you at the main road and drive you in. Makes for a super quiet place with no through traffic.

It’s great for smokers - you can sit on the long wooden balcony and smoke with beautiful Mountain Views. Unfortunately we aren’t smokers so the fumes into our room at times were a bit irritating.

Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff were nice and friendly. Berta was superb.
