Definitely a unique stay in the old stassis of Matera. The hotel is centrally located on the terraced pedestrian streets of the beautiful old part of this unique city. The hotel had an incredible amount of character, and our room, a former cave dwelling of a Matera family, was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast in the room off the courtyard was good, and the staff was exceptional.
My only complaint is that the dehumidifiers the hotel provided in our room were too small, so they would fill up in the middle of the night and then beep to alert us. Being a former cave dwelling, it's understandable that the rooms are humid and need dehumidifiers, which worked well. We emptied them as we turned out the lights to go to bed, but they still filled up and alerted us at about 3 o'clock in the morning.
