Nice walks in the area

Quite isolated and far from any amenities. The house was very dark and basic. You have to provide your own bed linen which was really inconvenient as I’m visiting from overseas.

Location ok.

We paid just over £1,000 for 5 nights in August. On arrival, we were told that property had been given a deep clean. This was certainly not the case. The smaller bedroom was full of dust, had mould on the walls, and there was also rubbish left down the side of the beds from previous guests. Itlooked like it hadn't been cleaned for years!! It was that unclean, we decided not to stay. We requested a full refund and are still waiting for this request to be answered. The owner is not answering calls or replying to booking.com and we are being ignored.

The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed letting our dog run around it once we knew we were allowed to use it - instructions not clear so kept ourselves penned in the little gated area until we knew. The kitchen was well equipped and the owners responded quickly when we told them there was only 1 cracked wine glass in the cupboard.. Wifi is strong and decent speed.

We stayed 5 nights in Stable Cottage. We chose the place based on the reviews and cant say they lived up to reality.  This cottage is in a VERY isolated road outside of Ilfracombe and, although reviews say its walking distance from the beach, this is a 30min walk down precarious country roads with no visability so quite dangerous. The instructions we got from Bookings.com via Sykes Cottages was vauge and non specific for our cottage and we kept being told there might be covid restrictions in place (which in 2024 was definitely not an issue in everyday life so we thought this was outdated) Turns out Stable cottage is sticking with Covid restrictions by not providing any bedding, towels (quite normal) but not even a shower mat or tea towels,  so any basics you need to pack yourself. We had to go find and purchase all of these locally on arrival.   The accommodation is basic but functional. The bed is very hard (and we love a hard matress) with pillows that made our face hurt lying on them! Shower is tiny for any tall adults and isnt very effective.  The games room highlighted in the description and pictures was all packed up and looked like it was just a storage area for building materials so we didnt use it. Sky TV is offered but only very limited channels work. 

The location, the spaciousness of the cottage and shared garden, the friendly hosts who answered any questions we had. And it was really dog friendly, we and our dog had a great time. We really loved our stay and definitely will be back!!

Bedding and towels not provided (not the end of the world but would have been convenient if they were provided), very few tv channels and outdated dvd/VHS selection. Again, not a big deal but just a note.

Great location. Parking right in front of the cottage. A nice huge size of the shared garden with plenty of Sun. The cottage was nice and warm. We enjoyed a short walk to the Lee Bay and had a nice cappuccino in their local gallery shop next to the village church. Visited Ilfracombe and Woolacombe with our little dog. Our Son enjoyed the game room, especially playing darts.

This is our recommendation: Coat hooks are missing downstairs. It would be very helpful to remove the pictures under the stairs and put them there. Overall- great stay and we do recommend it. Thanks Kathy.
