Khamlia Desert Bed & Breakfast

We had a great stay, accompanied by Ahmed. We also had dinner, the pizza amazig, it was delicious! Breakfast was very good too! I hope we will come back!!

Abdul and Ahmed are the heart and soul of this place. They make you feel part of the family (living on the premises, btw). Nothing is too much, difficult or impossible for them. They speak good english and french and spanish. They will do anything to acommodate your every need. The decor is traditional berber desert residence. If you search for a genuine experience this is it. More so than other kitschy acommodation options mimicking tradition. It is tranquil, it is comfortable enough. It has gotten all modern amenities inside this traditional setting. If you travel by bike or motorcycle there is the possibility of garaging your vehicle inside what appears to be a big event room with access from both outside and inside the house. If you fear a sandstorm my affect your vehicle (as it happened when I was there) go for it. The food cooked by Abdul's sister is fenomenal. I am not a big fan of tajine. But this one, and the accompanying traditional salad where to die for. And plenty. The breakfast is simple (bread, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, jams, coffee, tea) but you can request what you want to eat and the time of serving it. Location us 8km south of Merzouga in a remote village, away from the turist crazy resorts but close to the dunes and immersed in local tradition. I did not do any of the touristy stuff, as i did them all long ago, on a different trip. I was there for the quiet and i got plenty of that. Thank you, guys! Do I recommend it? Oh, yes!!

Nothing really major, but there are some areas of improvement: There is limited space to hang or store clothes. The ilumination inside the room is very dim. The A/C is kind of noisy.

The person attending us, Ahmed is a very friendly and helpful person.

There is no sign for the hotel so it was difficult to find.

per chi cerca un campo autentico nel deserto, al di fuori del classico giro turistico. noi abbiamo scelto di raggiungere il campo con i cammelli insieme ad ahmed, guastandoci l’avvicinamento con lentezza mentre il sole pian piano tramontava. ottima la cena preparata sul momento. è definito un campo “non di lusso”, ma è collocato in una piccola oasi nel punto più bello del deserto, lontano dagli altri campi tendati, abbiamo scelto di dormire fuori dalla tenda sotto le stelle….e questo per noi vale più di qualsiasi altro lusso!
