This is a brilliant hotel! The mountain decor, with plenty of warm wood, is perfect for the location. The entrance is right outside the train station so it's super convenient for those who prefer to leave the car in Domodossola and explore the valley on foot/train/bike. Staff is amazing and it feels to be at home rather than in a hotel. The room was warm and comfortable, and there are some snacks/water and a free surgical mask for guests. The bathroom feels a bit old style but is perfectly functional. Overall, the hotel is very well maintained, spotless clean and comfortable. If you have the chance, try the restaurant - it's superb and the atmosphere really nice. The dinner room doubles as breakfast room in the morning - due to Covid restrictions you cannot serve yourself at the buffet but the staff will be happy to fill your plate with what you select from the buffet display. The food is good also at breakfast, with a good variety of sweet and savoury items. There are some shops close to the hotel, including a minimarket and a pharmacy both within walking distance (10 mins or so). Some more restaurants can be found in the heart of Santa Maria Maggiore, again max 5/10 mins away on feet. Also, they sent me a Christmas postcard at home for the holidays - this was absolutely cute and unexpected!

There is no lift, so keep that in mind if you have mobility problems.

Esperienza spiacevole e mancanza totale di ospitalità

Avevo prenotato una camera per me e mia moglie, ma per motivi personali abbiamo dovuto portare anche nostro figlio piccolo, che avrebbe dormito nel nostro letto senza bisogno di servizi aggiuntivi. Ho contattato l'hotel con anticipo per spiegare la situazione, e la risposta della proprietaria è stata tutt'altro che cordiale: al telefono, con tono scontroso, ha liquidato la questione dicendo soltanto “non lascerò il bambino per strada”. All'arrivo la situazione non è migliorata: per tutta la durata del soggiorno siamo stati ignorati dalla proprietaria, che non ci ha mai rivolto la parola. A colazione ci è stato assegnato un tavolo isolato, separato dagli altri ospiti, mentre la stessa proprietaria si intratteneva con tutti tranne che con noi, in un atteggiamento chiaramente scortese e discriminatorio. Va sottolineato che, al momento della chiamata, avevo ancora la possibilità di cancellare gratuitamente la prenotazione. Se non eravamo graditi, bastava dirlo in modo chiaro: avremmo volentieri evitato una permanenza così spiacevole. Un'accoglienza del genere è l'opposto di ciò che ci si aspetta da una struttura ricettiva.

Albergo pieno di fiori e di cosette graziose legate alle tradizioni locali

Piccolo albergo, pulito e silenzioso. Colazione ottima e abbondante sia di cereali, di brioches e biscotti, di salumi e formaggi, di yogurt e marmellate ..... manca solo qualche torta casalinga. Si può pranzare a tutte le ore, buona la cucina di prodotti tipici della zona. Eccellente la posizione, di fronte al trenino della Val Vigezzo, comodo e silenzioso, per spostarsi da Domodossola a Locarno. La proprietaria è impegnata attivamente nell'annuale Festival del Folclore.

Manca l'ascensore, però l'albergo ha solo due piani.
