Price of wine at RARA was excessive so purchased at hotel bar instead.

The staff were mostly friendly, warm and helpful. I got the impression they're working hard and trying to do their best in less than ideal circumstances. My room was quiet at night. Although the restaurant was closed, the adjoining Rara restaurant / bar served a decent enough Dal Makhni, and it was just bad timing that the place was overwhelmed with noisy football on the two huge TV screens (it was the World Cup Final, so understandable - but a shame that the hotel restaurant was out of action that night, so no alternative if you didn't want to have football shoved in your face along with dinner.) The grounds - basically a big flat field - gave it a spacious air. There's a fan in the bedroom. The full english breakfast was decent enough.

This is far from the 'sophisticated country house hotel' ambience it claims on its website. The pastiche extension to the original house is pretty ugly, with a hideous new tower overwhelming it. It's OK as modern cheap(ish) hotels go, but don't come expecting sophistication or elegant tradition - you won't find it. A few small gripes: There was no cold water in my room (as in, the basin tap didn't work). I only discovered this late in the evening - reported it the next morning. The bathroom is tiny; sitting on the loo means having your knees up against the radiator. (It really would be nice if the people who design tiny ensuites could at least think intelligently about layout. Having the door opening inwards didn't help. The windows only open a fraction - not great for this summer heat. The tea and coffee selection was limited. On the night I arrived, I couldn't get onto the hotel wifi; it was fine the next morning.
