Location, location, location and the imagination of glorious days in the past. While everything is very clean and well-kept, the ambiance is charmingly dated.
The bar is cool, wood panelled with stained glass windows, a very reasonably priced menu and a jolly bartender.
I’ve seen more enticing breakfast buffets in a youth hostel. Just as a tip…There are nice cafés close by.

Good sized room in a great location. Lots of restaurants close by, and a short walk to both good shopping and the river. The hotel was right beside the opera house and the well kept square. It was easy to park, although no parking on site, and it took a little while to get the hang of the parking app. Parking charges were reasonable. The bed was comfortable and the room was serviced daily. We stayed here for Ironman 70.3, and this was about a 40 minute walk to the start.
Limited gluten free options at breakfast - no separate toaster for gluten free bread, so not suitable for coeliacs. The scrambled egg was not very appetising (we thought it was porridge at first!), but the sausages were lovely. Would have like some kind of salad - fresh tomatoes, for example to offset the meats and cheeses. Lots of breads and pastries, and plenty of fresh fruit.
The whole place was just a bit dusty - but you could still appreciate its old world charm. The chairs in the bar were worn out, although the champagne they served was fab.
