A Decent Stay but Needs Updating

Perfect

It is a beautiful period building with lots of tasteful character the Christmas decorations were exceptional and the background Christmas music was very relaxing.

Nothing, it dined seem like a 3 star hotel and should be awarded more than this. The food was exceptional.

First time visitor to the hotel, easy location to find, centrally located to visit the town

Well laid out for those having a continental breakfast. Friendly & helpful staff.

Misleading room advertising

Misleading room advertising. Got a totally different room than we purchased - tiny, dark, thin walls, old bathroom, old furniture, black wall in front of window

Room was extremely warm even with a fan on in November , also couldn’t have the windows open much as there were rather a lot of pigeons sleeping outside the room !

Room was very ‘beige’& although decoration & furnishings were fine in quality, they lacked imagination & a bit of colour to make the room interesting & more enjoyable to stay in. I was upgraded from a single room to a double but the room I was allocated was grim (Room 112, I think) as its window looked over an internal space which was very unattractive. The Reception staff reallocated me to a much better room with lots of natural life (215). Note…the booking site gives the impression that the single rooms overlook the river but only one of these rooms actually does.

A lovely, relaxing stay with a warm welcome

Fantastic hotel in a great location. Comfortable, stylish, room with a bath, and a great view. We enjoyed sitting in the window seat people watching and watching the river.

Dreadful never go back

The location

The room was very very very nosy with music so load from a wedding on the ground floor my old age uncle had to be moved at 10.30 at night…kitchen extract fan left on all night just out side room on first night & second night you couldn’t hear because of the music but the they turned it on at 6.20am… It take 10/15 minutes of running the taps to get hot water & all the staff say was it’s an old building… No offer of a refund, will never go back to this hotel…

The room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The staff were so friendly and the service at check in, breakfast and evening meal was fantastic.

The room was large and comfortable, we had a lovely view of the old train line. Shower hot and good pressure. Good and staff were fantastic. We stayed and celebrated my Daughters small Wedding and everyone was very accommodating. We had three rooms, all lovely and breakfast was amazing. I can not fault anything.

Probably has it's best years behind it, but ok for an out of season one night stay.

The parking was ideal as was the location. It was clean and well presented. The bar was well laid out and the restaurant waiting staff were excellent.

We checked in and the receptionist told us the wrong rate for breakfast and pressurised is to pre-book at that higher rate. I assured her she was wrong, but she would not take my word for it, I had to take out my phone and show her the confirmation email before she would accept that she was in the wrong.

Cosy and comfortable hotel with easy walk to town and access to the Tarka Trail.

Cosy room, comfy bed, clean bathroom with great shower and toiletries, lots of hanging space, decent hairdryer.

Bedroom windows were overlooked so curtains had to be shut for privacy which made the room very dark. Some voile curtains on the bottom half of the windows would fix this. The bathroom door opened onto the bedside table which made it quite tight to get in to the bathroom.

Comfortable and relaxing stay in this beautiful historic Hotel.

We loved this hotel and its history. It was very comfortable and staff were cheerful and chatty and made every effort make our stay pleasant. The food was excellent at breakfast and for our evening meal, all prepared 'in house' and sourced locally where possible. We had our 2 dogs with us and they were welcome wherever we went in the hotel. They even got a sausage each at breakfast time! We really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel.

My room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and there was ample storage. I had an evening meal and Breakfast at the hotel, and both visits to the restaurant were `1st class. The staff were professional and the location very good. Parking is also provided across the road from the hotel entrance.

We had room 108 on the back and the noise from the kitchen extractor was 55 Db which is appalling ! Car park is across the road on a busy corner - no pedestrian crossing - very dangerous. The dining room is a beautiful old, wood panelled room but spoilt by several bizarre portraits of dogs dressed as men.

Beautiful hotel across Bideford Bridge. Room comfortably large & beautifully decorated. Nice ensuite with rain shower. Free parking & extensive breakfast menu. Carvery dinner was good too.

Great hotel making me look to stay with the same company when ever in this area

Beautiful classical ambience and decor which is spotlessly maintained. Best hotel meal for a very long time.

Rooms spotless but lacking refrigerator which we would expect in this standard of hotel. TV also rather small. Mattress soft at the edges, which is common in so many hotels that do not replace them often enough, causing me 17st. to be sleeping on a slope.

Over night stop.

Friendly staff, comfortable bed , clean room, good sized bath towel. Close to the main town with a walk across a bridge. Parking opposite the Hotel. Loved the green room for Breakfast (a bit of history in there) and the attentive staff service. Nice uniforms.... Sort of brought in the country feel . Big Breakfast option.... croissant to cold cuts, cereals and toast + cooked options. I settled for the cooked English which is a generous portion.

Great character hotel along the Tarka trail. Locked bike shed in the car park. Evening meal was very good.

No lounge area, there were nice chairs in the lobby though. However this wouldn’t stop us staying again.
