Cit'Hotel Le Montreal

Nicely decorated in a quirky style. Very friendly staff. Rooms basic but are enough for an overnight stop. Varied breakfast provided.

The location is in an industrial estate which is 40 mins walk to centre of Chalons du champagne.

We loved the effort that had been made to make the hotel homely . Lots of beautiful items of furniture reclaimed and painted, lovely pictures, lights and lamps, all different. The whole place, though basic in design, has been fitted out to give the impression of something like an old farm or alpine gîte. It was a real little treasure buried in an industrial estate. It was very conveniently located very secure car park (important for travellers) and there were restaurants and a lovely boulangerie close at hand. Even though there was no reception, we were made to feel welcome, with emails and even a phone call before we arrived. Very easy to get into our rooms. The breakfast was excellent! The kids loved the pancake machine, and the REAL maple syrup. We liked the egg boiler too. There was everything you could want for breakfast really, and lovely breakfast room with outside patio too. Finally - no horrible aircon! Fans and windows that open were perfect for comfort even in very hot weather. So refreshing to find a hotel that hasn't succumbed to demand for sealed rooms and airconditioning, which are so unhealthy.

There is no reception on Sunday night, but it would have been nice to access the beautiful sitting room area. However, because the bar and reception are open plan with the sitting room, it's probably impractical, unless a new door were made, or the bar closed off. It's a lovely little public area, but only open on week nights.

Normally a good value hotel but the price was higher this time. 100 euros with breakfast is too much, we stayed in a lovely Chateau the next day for 75 euros with breakfast and several other very nice modern hotels during the week in Holland & Germany all with AC and all under 100 euros. No AC , room very warm due to extreme hot weather,

Really easy to find. Secure parking. Great breakfast.

Sofa bed was very creaky. Bar not open at all Sunday when we arrived so we were unable to get drinks/snacks. Could only find Mac Donald’s open close by, which we aren’t keen on. Was very stuffy in room. No water in room.
