L'Hébergerie

A peaceful and relaxing base for visiting Reims and the Champagne area. Epoye is a very small village about 20 minutes easy drive from Reims and also a similar drive for joining the Champagne Route. Our hosts gave us very helpful information about where to visit and dine. The property is close to, but just outside the Champagne vineyard area, but the whole district is very picturesque. We stayed in an upstairs apartment with two bedrooms within a very attractively converted farm building. The bedrooms were a good size, attractively decorated, spotlessly clean, with an excellent bathroom and shower (separate toilet). There was a kettle and fan in the room, which was comfortably cool in extremely hot weather. The pool was pleasant and had a small seating area with adjacent changing room with a shower and toilet. There was a grassed area with play equipment for children. Parking was very straightforward, good to know after a long journey. The breakfast was very enjoyable and good quality served at a large communal table in a conservatory. Guests also have use of a communal room with a table, fridge, microwave, toaster, sink, cutlery and crockery. We were served a cold platter meal in here by our hosts soon after arrival, which was excellent quality, good value and just what we needed after a long journey (this was arranged in advance).

A few quirks of the property which we were not aware of in advance (apologies to our hosts if these were communicated to us, but we did not pick up on them). There is a small (2 euro per person) extra charge for use of the pool (we used our own towels, so this did not appear to be a towel hire charge). There are meal options at the property, but best to check these are available during your stay in advance. We indicated at the time of booking that we would like to eat at the property, we were offered a cold platter meal (which was excellent) on the first evening and nothing on the second (this was possibly due to exceptional circumstances, but was not communicated to us until the day we were due to arrive). We were however given detailed information about places to dine, the closest being a 10 minute drive or lots of places in Reims, (Epernay did not appear to offer a good range of dining options). It is also worth noting that the property does not accept credit cards, extras need to be paid for in cash or bank transfer. There was some noise between the second bedroom in our apartment and the adjoining apartment.
