Rua Beach Resort Sumba

Beautiful location on a stunning beach. Comfortable rooms. Warm and friendly staff. Great food! It was nice to be next to a local village to see some of the traditional life of the Sumbanese. Our 8 y.o loved playing football on the beach with the local kids!

Breakfast was great and it was fun watching the locals with their ponies in the ocean

The pools needed a good clean

The owner Santos and his staff were wonderful throughout our stay. Especially the welcome and farewell. The location is beachfront where you have beautiful sun rises and see the locals quietly going about there business. The accommodation is comfortable and super clean, you go to bed with the sound of the ocean. Lastly, Santos is an excellent chef and runs a quality kitchen Especially the Italian food which is a must to try. Santos organises good drivers and tours which we enjoyed

Nothing all good

Overpriced for what it is. Our family has travelled through Sumba for a week so we have a good feel for costs and standards. We payed less for better at other places on our stay. Pros - Great location. Polite staff. Food was clean and good. Pasta was very good. Nice pool.

Cons - not well maintained and is run down. Biggest issue for me was the mattress. It is not fit to sleep on with the coils poking into me. it needs to be replaced. 3 hrs sleep the first night. 2nd night I used 5 layers of beach towels to try to improve it a little. Suggest the management try sleeping in it for a night. Given it is such a key part of your stay it ruined my sleep for the two nights. There is no management here so no one to greet you or explain anything as the staff have very limited English. In one of our rooms the AC didn’t work for the first 24hrs and was fixed on the second day with a $20AUD discount. Would suggest rates should be adjusted accordingly.
