Its location

The manager was absolutely fantastic and her attitude and skills changed my whole perception. This is a great hotel in an old house, thoroughly restored with love and attention to detail. The furniture is also special and different than the standard chain hotel. The staff is super nice. Breakfast is good with a couple of choices. Again the manager made this a stay deserving of a 10. She generously allowed a late checkout and was very prompt in addressing any concern/problem.

There were many things that made me think that this hotel stay will be rated very low. Entering Zanzibar is marred by the outrageously designed insurance scheme/fraud so being surprised by a charge of 88$ of "mandatory insurance" for our stay of 21 hours, set me in a very bad mood. (All business ownersbthere should fight to change this if they want happy customers). The car from the hotel was very late just because of a mishap/double booking. The clerk at front desk gave me a cheap room instead of the superior room that I paid for. He fixed it immediately and apologized when I showed him my reservation. The king bed is just a queen. A few other little things plus the noise from the tourists late at night played on the negative side but a good night sleep, a good breakfast and again that very nice lady manager turned it all around

Great place. great staff. Windows opening to the outside. Mosquito net around the bed. Easy to reach from the airport by taxi. They organised airport transport with a good driver.

The location is amazing

It is old and needs a lot of maintenance to be done While the booking cost is high compared to the facility provided.
