About this country house rental

Halfway between the vineyards of Bergerac and Cahors, our beautifully restored former farmhouse now offers all modern comfort for up to eleven guests.
In the main house, the large living room (11 x 5.5m.) has a large open fireplace at one end, surrounded by a large L-shaped sofa and easy chair, and a kitchen area at the other. With a six-burner stove and two ovens, you will have enough space to cook for your family and friends (if that's your hobby. After all, you ARE on holiday ;)). The wooden table sits ten.
Between both ends of the room, there's enough square meters of blonde oak floor to have a dance party. The excellent stereo system helps here...
Alternatively, if the weather permits, you can cook and dine in the outside kitchen, under the roof of what once was the tobacco barn. Or use the barbecue...

An open staircase leads to the second floor, with wc, an open bathroom (large shower, two sinks) and the master bedroom (7 x 5.5m., double bed).

Next to the main house are the scullery and next, two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (two sinks, shower and wc). Both bedrooms have their own entrance and terrace.
All three bedrooms have their own hot water supply, so there's always enough for everybody.
The scullery also gives access to the children’s attic, with loads of toys, five beds, wc and sink.

Our private pool (8 x 3,5 m; 26 x 11 ft) is surrounded by a large terrace. Comfortable loungers offer relaxation in the sun, or in the shadow of a 4 x 5 m; 61 square foot roof.

Our house has been restored under the strict rules in France for building and/or renovating in the vicinity of historic buildings. In our case: the tiny 12th/13th century church in the village (population 50), at 1500’ distance.

On the inside however, we have made sure modern standards are met. Furniture, decoration and (especially) lighting create an atmosphere which is sadly missing in most holiday rentals, where old, worn furniture and inadequate lighting seem to be the norm.

A 42” tv-screen with Chromecast and unlimited WiFi are available. Music is delivered by a good stereo system and through Sonos, which you can operate by downloading the free Sonos app to your smartphone or other handheld device. And of course there are enough reading lights to just sit and read a book in comfort.

However, you will probably spend most of your time outside. Across the lawn on the courtyard and next to the outside kitchen, the former pigsty and henhouse are now toolshed and gardenshed. Next to those, there's parking space in the old stables for two cars. The pool and its terrace can be lit at night.

This spacious house is ideal for families, or for (up to) three couples and five children.

Dordogne, with its moderate climate and rolling landscape of fields and forests, is perfect for cycling. Climbs may be steep (but shortish) and you can make it relatively easier for yourself if you stay in the valleys.
It's about 10 miles to the river Dordogne, with its numerous beaches and canoe rentals. Two golf courses (18 and 9 holes) are even closer.
For fresh croissants and other food, the nearest shops and restaurants are only 4 miles away in one of the most beautiful medieval fortified villages (Monpazier, built in the 13th century on behalf of Edward l) France has to offer.

Back in the house for the night, you will experience the silence that descends over the land after the sun has set. When the stars come out, the absence of streetlights means you will see an abundance of stars. And with a full moon, it's amazing how much it lights up the night, casting dark shadows around the house.
In the almost absolute silence of the night, you may hear owls calling from the woods, but the general absence of noise will make you sleep deeper than usual. You'll wake up refreshed, ready for another blissful day in the sun!

We had a truly wonderful week at this most gorgeous, tranquil and charming of houses. We were made to feel wonderfully at home - my daughter and I declared it “our spiritual home”. We very much hope to return. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend

nous avons passé une semaine très agréable dans cette maison bien restaurée, les espaces bien pensés, autant intérieur qu'exterieur. De la place, du confort et du charme . Isolée donc très tranquille sans être loin des beaux villages alentours.

Two weeks of bliss in a lovely part of France. My wife and I took the brave step of sharing Lacouynes with both sets of parents well into their eighties. The house with its three generous and separate ensuite bedrooms, with terraces connected to the two ground floor rooms, gave us plenty of opportunity to enjoy quiet time apart, yet we could all come together in the large living room and particularly spend early evenings around the table in the outdoor dining area - barbequing is hard to avoid.Bart and Jacqueline made us very welcome and had kept in touch beforehand to make sure we slipped immediately into enjoying our holiday. We lacked for nothing.St Marcory itself is lovely but quiet, with no facilities to speak of (the advantages are the quiet, with beautiful skies and stars). Monpazier, however, turned out to be the favourite of our Bastide towns (not an easy choice!), and is only a few minutes down the road. The Thursday market is great fun for local produce and gifts, but the shops cater for all needs anyway. Most towns in the area have a full calendar of cultural and more light-hearted events and we also found two cracking restaurants in Monpazier - La Bastide and our favourite, La Privelege du Perigord (try and get a table on the terrace). That said, there are many others in the town that we didnt have time to try, that looked equally inviting. With swimming in the river at Limeuil, glorious chateaus and wonderful wines, what is not to like!? Well be back
